So the hard reality is the previous top leadership of WellMed and the South Region steered the organization off of a cliff financially and now they have to do 2-3 years of change and reorganization in just a couple/few months. The parts of the organization that do not make revenue have to be terminated and all of those areas and teams that support it. The organization has to become streamlined and efficient…which it has NOT been for decades. It has been horribly lead and set up with huge teams that have done little to make revenue cycle occur regularly…and coupled with the 3 years of V.28 reimbursement cuts it has been a recipe for financial disaster. The leadership did little to nothing to make drastic changes to adapt and so now the Optum and OptumHealth level leadership had to step in to make dramatic changes in leadership and make mandatory pull backs in some markets and functions that do not make revenue. It is sad for sure. You can blame it on being unfair or an evil corporation but the reality is it was indecisive poor leadership that lead to this…they did not make the tough decisions when they should have a couple of years ago. Having a couple of years to make changes would have allowed leaders to redeploy their talented team members to other areas of the wider UHG company or even just give people a head’s up to make their own decisions. But by not acting decisively and effectively the senior leadership that was in charge set us all up for potential bad career impacts on us, our families and our patients. Be mad at the correct people who set this all in motion.

@3xz not to mention home care dimensions is going down the drain. Multiple layoffs but no leadership. If you’re cutting costs they need to cut the id--ts that run that too. It is a liability and a waste of valuable resources

@3vg Let’s see…. Behavioral health and ESRD programs ended a couple of years ago, Supportive Care was moved under Dr. Frank, Comfort Care was trimmed back like 90%, one of the two Bexar Imaging centers shut down, and there’s at least one SFH clinic that is closing. And I’m probably missing some more.

No one's talking about Joe Zimmerman's quiet exit. Seen him around lately? Pushed out by John Lovelady so he can get out of Josh Hardy's way while he guts finance and whatever other areas he can get the McKinsey consulting team to go along with so he can avoid the blame. GTF out while you can or at least start applying and hope that you can time your exit around 9/18 and 10/30

@29r so wrong
Wellmed is not in the red
Only CDO that consistently carries Optum
They are just not hitting the ridiculous goals that Optum set to make up funding all the other CDOs

However since Optum wants to have all “do more with less” cuts will occur. The result

  1. Top staff leave
  2. No salary increases or bonuses. Again those that can get other jobs will

Sad that some are saying “ the rats are jumping “. It’s more that those wise enough are seeing the deck chairs being rearranged on the Titanic. Poor Optum leaders have and ARE shooting holes in the boat.

So be stay and be stuck…get severance…or if you can get out now…

@1ze Nit in the red??!! The enterprise is HUGELY in the red. Forecasted to be $300M in the red for the year! This all in the news and publicly available. Everything that is hurting the rev cycle is being streamlined or eliminated. This is what responsible companies do that don’t want to go out of business. It su-ks for the employees who lose their jobs which is why you always need a plan as well as a 6 month fund to pay bills minimum.

Two RIF’s happening. One 9/18 and one 10/30. It’s horrible the destruction they are causing. It’s not that the company is in the red. It’s that the stockholders want more $$. Get your resumes ready. Apply everywhere you can. Improve your credentials however you can. Start a side gig. Most of all PRAY!

Massive changes for Wellmed IT, with targets identified in 30-32 pay grade. Those who work for Wellmed, you might want to get ready. Best of Luck!

Here is the latest intel from the recent merger of WellMed UM assets into Optum: Target is ~10% RiF. Main targets are duplicate jobs (merger is a total cluster f***).

Im not with the company anymore but they are sh-t. I am surprised they forced Hernandez out he is Dr. Rapiers best friend so I would imagine soon they will get rid of him too and only utilize him as a name but nothing else. Optum has been chomping at the bit to take over Rapier is holding out I think he owns like 10% of the company which is why they still deal with him just bc they have to. I have a few friends who have told me they are doing another round of layoffs after the last one in april which is when they let me go.

Wellmed is a mess. Poor customer service, disorganization, no help, their phones don’t even work. Another company UHG has tanked. All they do is try to cut corners.

Gruenhoefer been there long time. If optum is fully taking over then I would assume some parts will move to uhg that are not IT or clinical optum care. Many leadership changes, layoffs most likely. I'm sure there they tons of opportunity for cost cuts.

@a2 You are 100% corrrect…Lots of immense changes occurred in the last couple of years in the healthcare area and they simply did not adapt the company quick enough..stuck to the same game plan while the game fundamentally changed around them. Great people and I don’t think anyone harbors ill will for them but it is time for new leadership.

This is expected and honestly a long time coming. They both were going to be moving on shortly anyway so this just expedites things and clears the way for the new leaders to actually lead. Streamlining a convoluted and confusing leadership set up and paving the way for things to get done more efficiently. They both have done amazing things for the company over many years but it was time to go and open up a new phase for the company to adapt to the big changes with CMS reimbursements and fixing things in the organization. This is a good step honestly. They are great leaders but all things come to an end at some point.
