@v5 In truth, the company needed to get smaller the way it was/has been run. That said, with actual competent leaders of vision with a legitimate passion for tech, the company could and should absolutely survive under the guidance of better and more qualified and capable stewards. Now, if they could only be found! It's amazing. It's 2026, and Bose can't seem to find ANYONE of sufficient talent and ability, that is if they're even looking. So much shame and blame to go around. Dr. Bose unfortunately chose the wrong people, and they utterly failed in his absence. Though, the man himself championed some costly missteps himself in his final years. The Videowave was a financial disaster. Ten years earlier it would have been a great product. But, it was too little, too late, and waaaaaaay too expensive. I remember well the solemn whispers of how many were collecting dust in warehouses. And, people "in the club" genuinely thought that product was a winner that was going to upend the industry and make Bose the envy of all. Then, they said the same thing about SoundTouch. They proclaimed, "We'll be known as the company that invented streaming music!" in a world where SONOS was already "the iphone" of streaming speakers. Hubris!
@6wd you forgot messy middle
Layoffs aren't going anywhere—they'll just get rebranded. "Reorganization." "Pivot." "Rightsizing." "Realignment." "Course correction." Whatever sanitized corporate-speak helps them sleep at night. But make no mistake: you're expendable, and the axe is always hanging overhead.
From what I have heard the R&D building is nothing but a big storage building now.
I remember one of the many "repair" efforts to the roof. You could see the sc--ws coming through the ceiling as they "repaired" the roof, creating more holes to let the water in. Like the three stooges drilling a hole in a sinking boat to let the water out,
The roof still leaks.
I left recently for more pay, it was not the reason though.
Find your network, we can help.
Is it worth leaving, even for a pay cut?
Vitti_is_a_clown - I wonder if the R&D roof still leaks? I’ll never forget the buckets with hoses attached, snaking down from the ceiling. They were an embarrassing permanent fixture. But hooray for diversity carnivals in the parking lot!
The pension was the only differentiator left. They will not attract any talent going forward and be stuck with substandard employees, in disrepair buildings while waiting to be shuttered. Sounds like it will be a stressful couple of years. I guess this is the end of the messy middle?
I haven't been employed by Bose in over a year, but I got a letter from Bose stating that new employees will not be enrolled into the pension plan, only a 401k. I already know a few of you numbskulls are asking what does that mean. It means if are hired on today you will not be fully vested in the pension plan when Bose closes. Everybody there now is either fully vested or very close to being vested. Just like the Titanic, the band continued to play as the ship was sinking.

I think the pension is insured under The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC).

Most likely nothing.
When a company ends its pension plan (defined benefit), the money is used to buy annuities from an insurance company.
So, what happens to our pensions if and when the company is dissolved?
This same question has been asked for the last 10 years. There will not be a stop to layoffs until the company is dissolved.
They'll go after the US-based software teams once Shanghai is staffed up.
My guess would be, for now. Wait until after the holidays and the first of the year. 2026 will prove if i am right. Mass lay offs and completely shuddering the company 2027-29, sometime during that time frame.
