Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How is the Company Still Here?

Nearly 6 years ago when the pandemic began, it looked like Sears and Kmart were going to go under... so how are they still in business almost 6 years later??

Perpetual member of the Home Services "Donut Club" because I can't in good conscience, as a Catholic, walk into the home of a working class person like myself, living paycheck to paycheck, and try to sell them a warranty that I know will not serve them.
Good place to get enough experience in sealed systems to go out on your own doing HVAC without paying for school. Other than that, with all the layoffs of entire support departments, downsizing of facilities, pushing the bring-your-own-vehicle program, and squeezing of technicians into tighter and tighter time restraints, I don't see the company lasting much longer before Eddie decides to sell off the vans and tools and call it a day. If we weren't so dispersed and surveilled in the field, I'd say it might be worth unionizing.

@42d - No worries !!!

That’s the propaganda created by the Indian chick, former executive, Eddie’s former squeeze, still posted — as AI is in charge of everything now

We all know the only thing Sears ‘leads at’ …
is losing . LOL

Sears is America’s leading integrated retailer, and the first to transition from legacy retailer to a leading e-commerce web site.

As a legendary brand trusted by tens of millions of Americans, it has an irreplaceable spot in Making Moments Matter for households across the country. No other retailer has the sheer expertise, breadth of offerings, service delivery model and digital-first strategy that Sears has.

@2zv hello my friend. You seem lost. We are talking about Transformco. Are you another upset former kmart/sears retail worker? Eddie successfully stopped the bleeding by eliminating the majority of sears/kmart locations. Maybe you should have driven a more profitable business unit.

@1zz oh my. Transformco was formed in February of 2019... 6 years is pretty young for a company. At 6 years old, McDonald's was a much smaller company vs now.

A friend of mine just had her dryer fixed by Sears. The dude showed up when he was supposed to and fixed the appliance. No issues.

@1t6 Transformco has been around long enough and you must know they aquired sears thru bargain standards
You make it sound like this is a new baby company you pompass twit!!!. they've been around several years in the real estate quadron.. Purchasing a failing RETAIL entity is something new for them and they don't exactly no about the retail sector. so they let go and trimmed so much that they are not sure where they are now.. I dare you to ask just one service technician that all is better in their un-normal practices how much better that their jobs are better now they have "TRIMMED THE FAT".. SOME OF THAT FAT THEY STILL NEED TODAY AND IS MISSING DUE TO THEIR MISCONDUCT IN TRIMMING NEEDED JOBS

@1h1 show the law or rule stating that a profitable company NEEDS to increase revenue. What if they are comfortable with the modest revenue they are making?

Isn't it possible to increase profits by becoming more efficient and reducing costs such as payroll? Believe it or not, Transformco isn't the only company in the world that has eliminated payroll in order to become more efficient and more profitable... Amazon is doing the same..

@142 so silly. I never said Transformco was the most profitable company. Im simply stating that the company is doing fine, now that they cut the dead weight (everyone who was fired and business segments closed).

When the McDonald's brothers first tried to open franchises, they failed miserably.

When Walt Disney first started, he failed miserably.

Transformco is just starting. Don't count them out.

The insane colonel in charge of the service side (A&E) came from the retail side
They are doing to the service department what they did to the retail side, gutting it.
Cutting jobs and hours. They spend no money on anything .Yet the insane colonel keeps touting it as the largest repair company in the country.
Well Sears was once the largest retailer in the country and look what they did to it.
The new techs they hire get little to no training and are thrown on the road alone. The TLTs (Team Lead Techs) are expected to do their job and then babysit the 4,5 or 6 new hires also .
Every new policy or change they make just slows things down more.
The AI system does nothing for the techs and the customers hate it also.Yesterday the colonel was saying customers try to flirt with it.Yeah sure.
He is delusional and his job is to eliminate, eliminate eliminate.

Yes you're absolutely correct...Sears/Transformco is the most generous, thoughtful, caring, and the MOST profitable business on the planet and is doing extremely well. So well as a matter of fact that just for the heck of it decided to layoff and eliminate thousands TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE only because they care about them and their families especially around this time of the year. Nothing like getting a notice of separation from human resources so close to the holidays. Makes you feel so secure, warm, and toasty inside..

You all need to calm down and accept the fact that Transformco is just fine. Go be lazy and destroy another retailer/company. Transformco doesn't owe you anything.

Yes...
Well said, a profitable company can only increase their profits by one of 2 ways, increasing prices, or downsizing,,Downsizing a already "supposed" profitable company will increase your profit with fewer workers, but the flipside is the fewer workers now fill the shoes of 2-3 people. That is a known and proven fact. stop being a cheerleader for them unless you are part of them in a company officer role

why did you leave?, and a "profittable company does not downsize constantly.. not all positions were an AI replacement.. Are you a officer of the failing company?? I think not JUST A HOPEFUL BYSTANDER...i loved sears too but ITS NOT SEARS ANYMORE AND IS NOTHING LIKE SEARS USE TO BE.

It depends on the position.....
Not all positions are equal...and cannot be taken over with their AI mentality..
Some of these positions required a technicians help and NO MATTER THE AI AT HAND CANNOT HELP A TECHNICIAN IN NEED OF 2 MORE HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it so hard for you guys to understand? The company downsized to a profitable company. Not every profitable company needs to be the size of walmart/amazon..

Before leaving the company for another retailer, I had access to the Financials of the various aspects of the company and I saw strong profits in those specific parts.

Layoffs are not necessarily a sign of a failing company. Did you see the recent layoffs Amazon, Target, and UPS announced? Times are changing and tech is replacing people. If you were laid off, it means you were no longer needed and the transformco made a goos business decision.

Thats great for Guam...Now what about the rest of the world..
Sears is going under..
Show me the latest fiscal statement from sears/transformco that shows how much they are profitable, and I might add the Trans in Transformco stands for transformation from employed to un-employed for the tens of thousands of us..

@qa wrong. You're wrong.

  • Kenmore is doing great, is valuable, and profitable

  • Sears Home Services is the largest of its kind in the country and is profitable

  • Craftsman and Diehard bring in a ton of profits due to their licensing agreements

  • A&E is profitable

  • kmart guam brings in millions in profits ($100 million in sales each year)

Do your homework, friend.

Sears retail exists as a zombie company. It is a Wall St term used for companies that can only exist off of loans, tax write offs and asset sales. Sears has long since been dead and anything of value has been rolled into Seritage (mostly real estate) or sold off. Any stores still functioning and I'll include the .com in on this, haven't been invested in.

  1. 2018 Bankruptcy made all the debt go away.
  2. Sears and KMart stores are almost all gone
  3. Sears Home Services (A&E) produces the most revenue and still has 1,000 +- employees left….Technicians forced to sell fraudulent Sears Protect Home Warranty
  4. Sears Parts Direct is profitable, but the “return guarantee” is bogus
  5. Residual income from the sale of Craftsman, Die Hard and others
  6. The Kmart purchase/merger added $4B in real estate to the asset column
  7. Those wonderful, delightful, GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) NOLs (net operating losses)
  8. Etc., Etc.
