Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

Affected folks - those laid off since April 2025 - Have you found new jobs?

Has anyone forced out or currently training their replacements have any luck finding a new job? Can you share any tips? Did that "job search assistance" they offer help at all? I read that you get taxed in your severance for that "benefit". If it is useless can we opt out so as not to pay taxes on that?

Please keep this on topic and don't have this thread devolve into "the usual". This is for job hunting information only.

@1wz good on you! A job is a job at the end of the day. Hopefully there are other redeeming parts of the new job.

@1tg Right. Starting my new gig soon. Total comp is about 20% less than at TRP, though role has less responsibility. Feel very lucky to have landed it in this market.

@1pn resonates with me. Most people who get laid off don’t end up in a better job. At least not right away. There are those lucky ones that do but I’d say most have to settle. Especially in this job market. Maybe not five years ago.

@1mf please get some help. Seriously. Take a break. Go away for a while. It’ll get better. It always does. Get help right away.

My experience was that it’s about SETTLING. Have to swallow ego and pride and other emotions for money and an occupation. You may not get the same title or role or salary but if you want a job you will in the far majority of cases have to settle. Sorry but that’s just what I’ve experienced.

@OP I was let go on February 6th. I started my job search that morning. Since then I’ve applied to 120 jobs and had one phone screen interview. Even the jobs I received rejection emails from, I’m only getting about a 40% response rate. So of the 120 applications ~70 were a black hole. The job market is rough right now. It’s mentally draining. I started off optimistic but every day feels more hopeless. My entire team was eliminated and we all have the same story. Sure, getting through ATS is questionable but the truth is, since my last layoff 15 years ago, the game has changed. The market is saturated with highly skilled professionals, active job postings might not actually be real and the human side of recruiting feels far less human. I didn’t think I’d be unemployed this long. The rising cost of everything and the mediocre severance package has destroyed my savings. Most days it’s a moral victory just to not swallow a lead hollow-point.

There is life after T, Rowe for sure…whether it be a new job or in some cases like mine no longer having to work at all…sitting back at the beach enjoying life. Thank God every day that I am very fortunate to no longer have to work and deal with corporate BS and so many of the fools that think they are a gift to the world of investments. Sitting back reading these threads from time to time is laughable. Good luck to those that still have to deal with the sh-t that is T. Rowe Price.

@19e thank you! I sent out a bunch of tailored resumes too, but as much as I hate networking the thing that got me offers was reaching out to people on LinkedIn that I worked with previously (specifically who were managers) and are now at new companies I wanted to work at and sharing i was laid off and if I could learn more about their company. Then sharing what I brought to the company. A few people left me on read, but those that did respond extremely generous with their time and help! You got this!

@1e6 you might be interviewing with AI anyway. New breed of boss. Tell you how to troubleshoot something physically it can’t do.

@19f you can also use AI to prep for interviews.

@12m I'm still working. Had some bites, but haven't made a move yet. I second the person who said AI was more of a help than that service. If you write out your accomplishments, then upload to AI with the job description, it helps you word things better and assemble a tailored resume that gets past the auto-screeners, then if you get an interview, upload the job description and any information about the company you have, then it can help you with mock interview questions. I use XAI/Grok. As far as taxing the "job assistance 'benefit'" - I read that - not sure if on that "transition hub" or in the transition letter itself. It makes sense, because you get taxed when you would cash in Bravo/Shine awards for gift cards, and back when they did the discount Weight Watchers memberships, you were taxed on the discounted amount.

@ez Congrats on your new role! Life after T Rowe! I read so many horror stories about people who send out 1000s of resumes and hear nothing back. Enjoy your new role - I am hoping to get fully remote as possible. I just want to focus on work and not office BS.

@OP tip for managers that lost their job: don’t blame employees you bullied for your poor performance. It just makes you look bitter and egoistical.

I used the service because my resume was pretty dated. They help, but it requires you do all the lifting. To be honest, I found AI way more useful for resume building than they were. My coach was nice and stayed in contact but I didn’t regularly schedule time to meet with her because there wasn’t a ton of benefit. I wasn’t aware of the taxes on the service, but that BS if it’s true. Il

@ez what service did you use?

Laid off July 2025 , took a month off just to set myself straight mentally and then did use the service. Use it for what you need it for. Not everything applied to me, I didn't need interview prep help, but a lot had changed in the ten years since I was last in the job market. My assigned mentor really helped me understand the new processes of resume tailoring, and specifically building out my LinkedIn profile to network. The two offers I got were from the folks I had reached out to and worked with previously. I didn't do their classes or other networking events, but I was honest with my coach on where I was struggling or unsure and she really helped. Don't write it off! Started new role in December, fully remote, so it paid off for me.

Stay positive. People have landed at good places. Keep in touch with your colleagues. Keep your network active. It’ll happen sooner than you think.
