Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

1200 job cuts to rehire 800

you can Google for press release. The official word is 1200 cuts but to re-hire 800. Just a signal to Wall Street they are replacing employees with cheaper ones if they follow through. Leave on your own terms if you can.

@13nj+1tkA4jNF, no point contacting HR, they will eventually be replaced by self service and AI.

It all about salary and not performance. This is especially true if you are an older experienced employee. Your head will be on yhe chopping block.

Average salary for a software engineer in Bangtown is $30k/year.

Compare that to $160k-$230k in California.

Mark likes cheap curry.

they layoff people for a reason, sadly, this may have nothing to do with your performance, this is the reality of corporate America
if business does not make money or not growing, they have to do this, quick and easy

I had been considering leaving on my own terms for a while now since they kept laying off people and giving me their work, but leaving with a severance package is nice.

I feel bad for whomever is inheriting my 3-man workload.

I remember not long time ago there are about 500-600 openings on opentext, the number is 190 globally, and less than 50 in US, all are consulting or sales, so the hiring is definitely freezing

“a cut of 1.7% , lol. hardly worth talking about”. Unless you’re one of the 1200 that got axed. Then yea, I think it’s worth taking about. Rude.

That “cut 1200, hire 800” is a bit deceptive, because it masks the fact that they’ve been quietly freezing and outright eliminating open reqs for months. So the net loss of positions is more than the 400 being shared.

they never really rehire, can't offer competitive salary and people are not d-mb, they study up the company.. they freeze the positions frequently.

This fire and rehire has been going on for quite a while, nothing new

It's a cut of 5% and rehiring 800 in lower cost regions (based on the salary numbers in Mark's blog). That is worth talking about.
