Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

M-rating

I received an M rating, and people are telling me it’s bad? . I’m the smartest person on my team and my “boss” is an unqualified Saudi woman. I’ve emailed her boss and told him as much, but I don’t know if that will help? To those of you considering coming here, be mindful they prioritize their own despite how much value you may add.

OP you are a more on. Sending emails talking sm--k about your boss is one of the d-mbest moves I've ever heard. I've been here 20+ years. It's not the best place to work but keeping a low profile is the game. Never expect anything and when you get something just say thanks and move on.

Yes dude an M rating is not good
Picking a fight over it though? Worse. You’re cooked.

Look, it’s a Saudi company run by tribal locals. What do you expect? It’s never going to be a beacon of fairness or true expertise is it? The whole place is a show.

Get used to it. You cannot change a thing.

I’m sorry if you’ve been coerced or fooled by Aramco HR before joining.

I started at Aramco back in the early 2010s, when at least some talented Expats were respected by Senior Management and had influence. If you found yourself in a bad situation, and one of those influential Expats thought you were worth a damn, you could go them and maybe get help. It was like an old plantation system with field "help" and house "help", and maybe the house "helper" would talk to the "manager" for you. That's not really the case anymore in the 2020s.

Now Expats, talented or otherwise, no longer have any influence. All Expats are now field "help". Some Influential Saudis are nice people, and they might value your work, but I've never seen one actually try to help an Expat in a bad situation. If you are in the field being whipped for no good reason, you have only two choices: su-k it up or leave.

@1bs I don't doubt that it is there but is it used properly? You already answered my question. When I was there, I just figured it was their country, company and I had to accept that fact or look elsewhere.

@13f well, it's supposed to exist as an impartial process to allow you to defend against what you feel is an unfair rating.

When I tried to use it, my manager just blocked it, despite my having nearly ten pages of documented evidence to the contrary. That's how I knew what they were planning.

But it's there.

PMP appeal?! I'll bet that's interesting information coming out of that process.
I was there for 17 years and never heard of any appeals. Kept on the down low I imagine.

If this was real, you'd know there's a PMP appeal procedure.

Your post sounds ridiculous, though. Nice try.

Yet Another suspicious troll here. The sole aim here to discredit this site's openly honest experience working for Aramco - by those that care for their work but feel duped, conned and mislead.

Hardly an act of true faith during the holy period requiring humility and kindness, but an act by useful id--t with blind devotion to a crumbling company.

@hn correct! They certainly have not been written by a westerner. The English is appalling, and the stupidity immense.

These last two posts feel "trollish" to me, and probably posted by the same person. There are tons of excellent examples showing why Aramco is unfair and dysfunctional, but these two seem designed to show expats as petty and stupid.

There are far better examples of Aramco's bad behavior, like seeing expats being used as scape goats for problems they tried to warn management about, and then watching while they were subsequently downsized. Hearing about expats being downsized as a KPI. Seeing expats being made to do potentially dangerous or illegal things.

Not all Saudis are bad people, but the bad Saudis tend to be in leadership positions ... or trolling here.

You can’t have been in Aramco long!

  1. Never expose management in writing like this unless you have wasta or options. You’ve caused a huge loss of face for your management and they will hate you for creating a written record of events that could damage them.

  2. You should have done this verbally. There may have been ways out where everyone saved face. That can’t happen now.

  3. You should now employ a local lawyer and ensure you have records of what’s happened. Fight for a fair severance because you are close to being fired for cause. Your visas will be quickly cancelled and it’s game over. Good luck.

How smart are you if you haven't worked out the locals always get preferential treatment and your boss with wasta is going nowhere, except promoted every 3/4 ) years...

Take the salary and work as little as possible enjoy cruising because nobody comes to enhance their career prospects.

M is the first step to getting laid off. You're on the top of the list so time to start getting your mind around it. Should not have sent any emails. Face to face is the right way to handle it. You can always file a grievance which you will probably win but you will lose in the end.

I've heard expats getting Ms more often than before...not sure if this is to do with future layoffs or just the quotas are stricter for PMP ratings...you are not in any immediate danger but M in Aramco means "so so performer" so chances are higher to be out of a job when the order to cut people is received.

@OP I’d say you’d better start applying for jobs in your home country as it’s only a matter of time before you’re down for the chop.
