Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

How toxic and unprofessional this place has become

I can not believe how unprofessional leaders have become, especially to women, and how toxic this place is (on site).
This place and company and its culture were so fun and rewarding. Never after all these years I considered leaving. Not once.
I can not imagine staying another day working for these people calling themselves executive leaders.
I have heard a group of sales leaders expressing concerns today about how competition is making it so bad for them. Seriously??? Did you just wake up? Did you get out of your bubble? Competition has been there for 5 years guys.
You are only focusing on growing the business in 2025??? What about all the previous years? You were sleeping at home??? No wonder.
This is such a sad story and no it won’t get better. Painful to see this everyday. Can’t take it anymore.

@26z out of 12 C level people only one woman, and 1 non white. At first sight it does not scream inclusiveness.

@26z the CIO came to the UK and said that thanks to AI women could now go into coding in front of all the IT team. He is still the CIO, I have not seen either a public mail of apology. The message is that it is ok to say such thing at Illumina.

@124 Yeah, of course that’s a fair and appropriate question, but it is very far from the way the issue was posed here initially.

It's not true that there are no minorities in the executive team, and even if there were none, that doesn't mean they were excluded intentionally. I thought this woke bullsh-t was already safe in the trash heap of history.

@10s Not at all. He could be great. The question is were there ZERO women or minorities who weren’t equally qualified? Are we providing opportunities to hire different people or just hiring our friends. Maybe women aren’t interested, I don’t know, but the question must be asked. The optics are awful.

The new AMR guy is very good. We’ll finally make our numbers. Very nice person too.

@z5 It’s interesting how people are commenting about the guy, I suspect, without having any material knowledge about whether he’s actually qualified or any good at the job. He’s being sited for being male, white, and bald. How many people commenting or up/down voting here actually have a basis to evaluate his substance or merits for the role? My guess is few to none. Yet the implication is that a woman or minority (or someone with hair) would automatically have been better. That’s the kind of dismissive, discriminatory thinking that creates the very problems you’re trying to assail. Watch out for that type of hypocrisy.

@y1 That was obvious. But still, WTF does him being bald have to do with it? That’s the kind of comment a petulant child would make.

We are clearly and frequently seeing the down sides of internet anonymity on this board. On the other hands, post predicting the timing of the latest RIFs were surprisingly spot on.

@xy Pretty sure this is a reference to a lack of diversity in leadership at ILMN.

@v2 What does him being bald have to do with anything? Go check your emotional maturity and come back when you’ve grown up. What a child.

I mean, we did just hire another white bald guy for commercial leadership

Asking if sales people are just coming out of their bubble? Are you serious? Sales people are in the front lines fighting off competition left and right with limited support from executive leadership who seem to think the competition will just spend themselves into obscurity. Sales people are blue in the face from telling leadership that we’re falling behind, especially in products and definitely pricing.

I agree that the culture is not what it used to be. It’ll never get back there. Start making yourself more marketable for outside companies if you’re that unhappy. I know I am.

I think the poster here (and in several other threads) is a former employee who had been terminated in one of the recent RIFs.
