Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Who is taking the voluntary retirement package?

I’m taking the early retirement deal and am curious how many other people are. I’m 56 with 18 years of service and I figure I should take the money while it’s being offered. Things are only going to get worse for those still at Cigna and this way the company is paying me for 9 months while I look for another job.

Who is ELT offering the VRP to or layoff on 9/27? Is it mostly Bands 1-4 or are Bands 5 and 6 fair game too?

@1vt And please check your paperwork. Make sure the language about being offered a similar or same job during the severance period. Some VRSP states that if you are offered a same or similar job from the company, and you reject it, you may be penalized by not getting the rest of the severance.. It's a very slippery slope.. The company knows what they are doing.. Be aware..

@2fx Managers were notified of the 9/27 date, but have the option of providing justification (needs of the business) to extend the termination date.

All the VRP dates are Saturdays because it’s the end of a pay period. BUT the ELT will get rid of most on 9/27. Financials aren’t good. The stock price is down. The ELT wants their excessive and disgusting bonuses. They don’t care about the employees. DC needs to take his hundreds of millions and retire. I will never understand that level of greed.
27% accepted VRP. Is it enough? Probably not. Buckle up!

You’re right. It’s one of the 6 original termination dates listed in the offer. All saturdays.

Does this mean the 9/27 termination date will be mandated across the board?

@2fg what does this mean? Did managers have little to no say on this? Or did their manager have control?

I took the retirement offer. I couldn't stand my department any longer. Paperwork says 9/1 we will get our end date. Already have a job lined up. Will gladly leave and not look back.

They sent out to 3,500, They had to figure that some percentage wouldn't take it so what was their real target? Will they extend it to other groups sooner if they didn't?

Wasn't eligible this time but will be seriously looking at the next round.

@1vt
Your health benefits always end on your term date, whether you get JE’d or retire. What seems to be different is the COBRA rates for the VRP are about 1/3 of the standard COBRA rates. If they’re bonus-eligible they’ll get a prorated bonus. And, all earned PTO will be paid. That perk is going away as of 1/1/2026.

@114 I heard it was 2 weeks severance for every year you have been there. And you have to sign up for Cobra right away. not exactly the best offer.

Do we know if the VRP offers were only offered to ESI/Evernorth or folks on the Cigna side also?

@1qk - Really, medical claims? Not everyone uses cigna insurance. I think the ELT is struggling to continue to make their $millions while the rest of us get mediocre pay and bonuses. If they get rid of the majority in September, they’re f’ing everyone else in those departments. Morale is going to plummet imo!

Also heard they are looking at claims data! If you cost the company too much - you may have been prioritized on this list.

@1e8 YES. 9/27 due to financial market pressures. Some exceptions but out of managers hands and final dates by 8/11.

I originally wanted an October date but I’ve since changed my mind and will gladly accept a 9/27 departure instead.

I heard 27% accepted VRP and ELT wants the severance to start 9/27 unless there’s a business need to keep them longer (e.g., 1/1 support). Forcing 9/27 instead using 4QTR will put a lot of stress on teams and projects.
I’ll do my part with transitioning out and starting an early retirement. I’m looking forward to leaving the micromanagement and inept people managers.

I heard today that your direct leadership team will find out the week of 8/11 which employees on their team signed the VRP. Also, I heard JE were done last week and were targeted - not sure exactly what was meant by targeted. Discussions I think are going to take place in September. Anyone hear of the same information, additional information or something different.

@gy I would love to know where you got your statistics. I want to pass this so people can make an informed decision. You are absolutely right. Know where you are going and what you are doing. I expect my department to change by the next quarter and be absorbed. I could have waited but I do have other offers AND I am over 55.

The original offer mentioned several possible termination dates, for those that accept the VRP. Now, we're hearing that they may mandate 9/27 for all. Has anyone else heard this?

The extras have already been listed here. Combine that with severance taking me to Medicare eligibility it’s a no brainer for me. If I was a few years younger I would have declined

I don't like it and I refuse to leave. I will stay until the bitter end, being inefficient with resources and slowing output at every opportunity.

Now what?

What’s the benefit of taking the VRP now vs just waiting until your J’Ed?

@1ad Or they actually want to see Cigna become better. Unlike you who wants to maintain the status quo.

Nice job pulling the old "iF yOu doN'T lIkE iT, thEn LeavE!!1". No wonder our stock is down.

I’m almost 50. I wish so badly I qualified. I can’t make it another 5 minutes let alone 5 years!!! The stress is ki-ling me, and I’m not being hyperbolic. There’s not enough EAP, lunchtime pep sessions with hired psychologists, or “flexible” work schedules that’ll help. Corporate burnout is REAL and DISABLING. This place su-ks and so do the 1000s of other companies like it. We need a new revolution of evolution, and we the People need to take our collective powers back. THEY don’t exist without our work and pillars of support.

Prorated bonus.
Subsidized COBRA.

Severance is standard

@g6 that is incredible! Most of the people I know declined.
I know of about a dozen people taking it and curiously, most of them are required to drive to an office. Do you think that's a coincidence?
