Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Am I the only one who still likes working here?

Layoffs are something that happens everywhere, we're not special in that regard. And I still think this is a decent job if you're lucky to have a good team and a good manager. Just my 2 cents.

@gx You sound very much on edge and too pessimistic. OpenText can choose to run itself into the ground by laying off every single body. That's on them.While we are here, we will take each day as it comes, enjoy the work while we upskill and keep our resumes current. Fun fact, my colleague and I applied for the same job. I missed the initial phone screen due to extenuating circumstances and they didn't get back to me. He eventually got the job, someone who was promoted recently. So yeah we are all looking out for sure and will jump out at the best opportunity

@10v Yes*

With Mark it was a bit more overt; time will tell if a new CEO keeps them or brings their own in. But the board 100% had time and chances to get that fixed.

Is there not a creepy cult-like vibe to the Board of Directors? The bizarre decisions and failure to act, is there some kind of fundamentalist angle here?

If you enjoy degradation then Y
you most likely have low standards. Which is fine.

To check real data go to Glassdoor and do simple math.
HP -> MF -> OT
Is overal raiting raising?
If yes you hit jackpot if no you can expect layoffs, team disruption, team gutting you name it.

Just my 50 cents.

I enjoy many of my coworkers and hope for more to come. I enjoy the work I do but the stress does add up. Feel a lot of pressure to perform and constantly being asked to do things outside my comfort zone. Would enjoy being more confident in many aspects and a consistent team. Continuous change of leadership and direction is hard. I’m still here so yes.

@v7
I totally agree with your assessment.

When you look at OT reviews on Glass Door, as soon as I start to read a positive review I look at two things:
1) How long the poster has worked at OT
2) ..Their geographic or country location.
The positive reviews are overwhelmingly being posted by employees from India.

Leadership does not even try to hide the fact anymore that they are desperately trying to manipulate the overall rating and perception of the company.

For the OT Leadership that are trolling posts here -
Maybe spend your time trying to fix the actual issues at OT, (including the balance sheet and customer retention) and less time trying to manipulate perception because that train has left the station long ago

We also see a bunch of fake positive reviews recently appearing on the fraudulent Glassdoor site, where spam from paying employers is never dealt with:

A bootlicker's work is never done.

I had a great manager. Made little difference. The entire team of 9 was laid off over the course of the past year. All while workloads were tripling.

@OP If you are in the US keep your skills sharp and your resume updated. It doesn't matter if you're a top performer. OT sc--wed me out of thousands in RSU grant $$.

The lifespan of the tek trade worker is a short one. If not accepted into the small clique of brown-nosers orbiting the executives one will not last anywhere close to a normal retirement date. Removal often comes at a time when the worker has developed a life outside work and family costs are at their peak.

@bq
I applaud your positive attitude..(as you say you are 16 years into your career)...and you eluded to having worked at other companies.
By my math I peg your age around late 30's. This means you probably have not 'aged out'..(yet) for high tech but you are on the verge ...
At OT this means (I promise you)..you are on a layoff list, there just isn't a date next to your name..yet.

You are very wise to upskill..but my advice is be mentally prepared because your time is coming (all due respect) ..and when it comes ..it happens fast and they cut off access within 10 minutes.
Keep the good attitude but be mentally prepared..they are ruthless about layoffs.

@e8 my dude I dont exactly see people complaining about their commutes or meals here.

Work like it or not IS most of an adult's life. I'm glad things are good there - and sorry if the thread minimizes that. For anyone. That doesn't mean the other departments are as lucky. For example, sales or PS that tends to benefit from whales/large deals (dont dox your role over it but I need smth to make a point.) There's at minimum 3-6+ departments between your customer and their product/support. I'd say 7+ but Compliance generally do not get seen auditing anyone. Couple for product release and management, couple on the order/renewal maintenance and maybe an extra one for tech support/ps.

While again I'm glad you all have it decent the odds are VERY low for not one of those departments to not have something go wrong/complain about. Potentially for your very whale.

OT has a lot of depts, magnified by region. Statistically yeah you're getting either vocal extreme on a place like this. That doesn't mean the complaints are inherently entitled. They're likely something a lot of us are just normally insulated from in our own. If a complaint is arbitrary/invalid come show them why they're wrong. But on their dept level, maybe not ours - or else it's probably not seen as good faith.

We have an excellent manager with excellent morale across a team of circa 13. We delivered budget as a team although had a whale land that did that number. However the overall consensus is positive,but we are well aware of the challenges we have of a dwindling install base and products that are not attractive to net new. The negs on here in my experience are unhappy with all factors of their life, and come across as incredibly entitled.

I’ve got a heartless boss and a squad of daft, self-sacrificin’ toxic numpties draggin’ whole “team” idea down. The job itself? Pure dead brilliant, mind. It’s just the team that’s a right bunch o’ wallopers and narcissistic wa-kers.

@OP, I agree, it's great working under a good manager and with a great team. I have worked for over 7 companies before joining OT. Layoffs were not a common thing.
I don't know how you managed to be so sheltered. My great team get reduced year over year and I personally know how hard working and dedicated those members that was layoff. Then I get a new manager who is obsessed with surviving and has to grow revenue even when our dept is not responsible for ensuring new revenue comes into our dept. We get tasked to perform the additional job of the revenue generation even if our job description do not include revenue generation. Common sense would dictate that you fix the inefficient revenue generator dept but nope.
Team that ensures everyone grow and share their knowledge are gone. Knowledge gained from experience are lost through repeated out sourcing to different flavour of low cost countries for the year.
Training has slowly devolved from face to face training with colleagues and customers to template virtual training.
Feedback are no longer welcome, only complete obedience.
Revenue generation trumps customer satisfaction.
How in gods name did you get so lucky and not be affected by any of those shenanigans? I envy you and the old times.

I honestly do like my job here at OT and it's the highest i've earned so far. My managers are likable, they know I get my work done, don't micromanage and customers have given me great compliments to my manager. So far OT is the longest i've been at a company in my 16 years in the workforce...RTO is the only PITA now and all these WFRs and RIFs...I've gotten a few interviews the last couple of months while testing out the job market. None have had the wow factor to have made me pursue hard enough to want to leave. I've lost 3 people on my team which has multiplied the workload but so far so good......My resume is updated and i'm upskilling as well to be future-proof as much as I can

@OP totally agree- unless your ELT leader decides to remove your entire department. That’s the fear we are all living under.
