Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Investigate unions

How do we go about having our own unions investigated for not doing their jobs? Clearly, the production hike is correlating with injuries and incidences. It appears they want transportation to do inspections and just Carmen to the shop and justification of a percentage production number.

@108 how many years have you been on the railroad? How informed are you with the RLA and the NLB?

For those championing the RLA, I'll say this, I'd rather be able to actually go on strike without the RLA, and take the risk. If the carriers bring scabs, then it's the ancient railroad again.

The problem with the LA and probably many other locations to include Omaha is mismanagement. Think about it. Most of the old heads are gone now and we have a new management team that is making decisions without doing any time surveys like they use to in the old days. They want 80% of the daily work sigh off when in reality there is not enough work hours for everyone to sign 80 % and the reason why there is not enough work for everyone is because they continue to send the work to west Colton and later complain that we don’t sign enough work hours.

If transportation wouldn’t have decided to be scabs.. And take mechanical jobs it would’ve helped.

The RLA is Not the problem. It's what actually protects us from the Carriers. The problem stems back to the Staggers Act, it deregulated the railroad industry and for a couple of years it was ok. It was only when Hedge Funds and Shareholders saw how much money they can funnel, did it get bad. We are still technically one of the highest paid workers in the industry. What everyone thinks is that without the RLA we would win, we would actually loose because the Carriers would get what they want, cheap labor and get rid of the unions during a strike. This problem is a Government problem that has allowed wealth to control legislation. It isn't a Republican and Democratic fight. It's wealth buying legislation. I don't care who you vote for, UPRR paid millions for the trump ballroom and when that didn't work, UPRR painted a locomotive for him. This is the perfect example of Wealth buying Legislation. Instead of crying about the RLA, contact your State Representatives and tell them to vote for the Rail Safety Act. The only way to gain control is through legislation and force the Carriers to improve safety. I've been escorted out of the Capitol several times, but it's the only way to force the Governments hand and have them enforce the Safety rules.

@OP instead of getting on here and complaining join the union and go after the RLA until we get rid of that archaic law we don’t stand a chance even when we vote down contracts the government makes us go back to work advantage railroad

In LA basin just last week they hiked up the production curve from 60 to 80 percent and gave us a lame excuse that it’s our fault they are doing this because we are signing too many hours. When they came up with 60 percent they told us that if we don’t meet the monthly percentage requirement we will get a coaching that can lead to MAPS. Does not make any sense!

The real solution to all the problems within the freight railroads, is to either get rid of/overhaul the RLA. The RLA is why all the "shareholders" keep treating this industry like a magical slot machine. Under the RLA, the carriers can do whatever they want, without any repercussions. The RLA is why our unions cant do anything.
