Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Laid off 9/2, Job offer 1/15

I was laid off 9/2 in MA. Developer, Database org, over 50 with 25+ years of service. The job search absolutely su-ked. Coding tests, ghosting, false promises, impossible interview questions; just brutal.

I finally did get an offer for about the same $$ as I was making at O.

The biggest obstacle was the lack of cloud based buzzwords on my cv e.g. snowflake, kubernetes, lambda, etc. Oracle development is composed of all proprietary cr-p of absolutely zero market value in the real world.

I am sharing this info as a data point for others who may be in the same situation in case someone finds it helpful to know the search is not easy but not hopeless either. I was close to giving up but glad I didn’t.

@103 I definitely did consider retirement but I’m not really ready to stop working. Still have energy and enthusiasm. The job search was a full time job and I was getting tired of it,

@105 the 2025 RSU’s vested 1 day before the official termination date, so I got those shares plus 26 weeks.

@jk do you mean your RSUs that were still unvested, immediately vested plus a severance package of 26 weeks?

@OP Congrats on the new position. Curious - being 50+ - have you considered retirement at all after the layoff?

"Yes, 26 weeks (the max)"

Perhaps in the United States ... others around the free world can get more time!

Congrats! Over 50, and finding a job at same pay in 4 months in this market, you did really well.

@c6 Interesting, thank you!

I had been thinking about moving to some kind of data science activity for about eight months before my termination at Oracle. (My last project at Oracle was an R and SQL program suite and its runs landing critical data on Mahesh, Clay and Safra desks. The praise that my efforts received from involved people, including Clay's personal assistant F. did not save me from being cut in August.)

But when I was cut and look around, I figured that the data science job market was smaller than the pool of people struggling for a place there, and the employeers' expectations were perhaps too idealistic. So I didn't even try to get there in earnest. With your input, maybe I should think about it again.

Thanks!

@c3 OP here, sorry I cannot name names and will only say that it is not a technology company. I will say that what tended to get interviews was 1) applying directly on employer sites ; applying in monster, LinkedIn etc was fruitless 2) working with reputable recruiters. My next move was going to be getting a certification in data science since that seems to be a hot area with lots of jobs.

@OP Me: OCI, Burlington MA, told about the termination on 08/11/2025. Moderately active in the job search, had a few interviews. Do not feel the situation is hopeless, may even go back to Oracle at some later time. Have seen a number of fake posted openings, including by Oracle. Apparently not eligible for re-hiring by Oracle for six months after the termination.

Would you be able to at least hint where you are going to land now? Thanks!
