PART TWO: All B&N Employees should know what is going on this week

PART TWO:

My husband, daughter, and I all worked part time at our store. I'm the only one who was called back. This has been a heavy topic of discussion at home. And we get it. It s—s big time, but we get it. This is not the same world it was six months ago. Hopefully everyone who wants to come back will have the opportunity to as we get closer to the holidays (whatever those end up looking like this year!)

Just got my last call a little while ago. I can't return because I would not be able to financially survive. Its real saddening after 5 years and I'm pretty bummed 😭

7 years with the company & 5 as CBDM, no call/text since my furlough call. 🥴

I'm right there with you as a CBMD.

Me too...25 years with the company, last 15 as CRM/CBDM 💔

14 year CBDM here. I’ve heard nothing official since the end of March.

Do we know how any unused time off will paid out when people are separated from the company (not including what has already been paid out)? Do we forfeit it since weve been furloughed this whole time? I just moved into a new anniversary year in July

They should pay out any unused vacation time they owe you, but it would be prorated. If your time just reset you wouldn't get paid out for a year's worth because you haven't technically earned it yet.

I had been wondering what the status of my employment was after I asked to defer on the last call.
I'm supposed to call my SM tomorrow and now I know what to expect. thank you. this information is priceless.

I’m never going to be able to return to my work. I live in NC and we’re stuck in phase 2. There was a Trump rally yesterday since he came to mills river and not a singer person was wearing a mask or staying socially distant. It also doesn’t help I don’t have a car and can’t get a ride for these wacky hours. It s—s. It really really s—s

I am in Chapel Hill. I just got called back yesterday. I star Saturday. It s—s when people don't follow the rules and make this worse

I’m still trying to process my heart is broken... I got the see ya call yesterday

I am so sorry. It s—s and I hate it.

I am sooo sad..... 🙁 I will be reapplying asap, but it is devastating.....

There aren't any hours available. I was told ppl should reapply right before the holidays.

Our SM said you had to be rehired within 60 days to retain hourly rate and years of experience 🧐
I’m waiting to hear if I’ll get the lifetime discount with my 20+ years if choose not to return

May vary by state.

Assuming they haven't changed the rules, as long as you leave in good standing (regardless of whose choice it was) you should get the discount.

Last night was my first day back since March and I've been there 17 years so I don't think anyone should take it personally if you haven't been invited to come back yet. I can't imagine managers not notifying you if cuts are being made.

How does the rehiring/application work? Do you have to submit a resume?

Just got the call today. Was told something a bit different. SM said that per corporate, anyone still on furlough at this time will be separated from the company with letters to arrive in the mail soon.

that’s what I was told as well

I know someone who was asked to return from furlough. So you either get asked to stay with the company or get the goodbye.

As one of the 1800, if they are sending you paperwork in the mail/FedEx/UPS, PLEASE read it carefully! Also, be prepared to wait a while on the phone if you need to call HR for information.

Kicking things is ALWAYS an option.

Got the call a few days ago. Was on the first people on here to post it, but it was taken down (I understand the reasoning behind it). Sad, its come to this as I've been with the company since 2011

So how do you reapply within 60 days if your store doesn't have openings?

I guess if there's another store in a reasonable distance try there? 60 days does bring us to around November, so maybe there would at least be holiday positions by then?

Not with the company anymore, and this is just a cursory summation of the post, but is this like #the1800 part 2? What is the scale of this current round of (what sounds like) layoffs?
