Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

The Comprehensive Guide to Playing the Politics Game at Qualcomm

Can everyone start posting their politics strategies here? Of particular interest are strategies that would help one survive multiple rounds of layoffs. We already have some info in the code comments thread, but i wanted to have a comprehensive thread with tips that would be published on Agile (eventually) to help new hires navigate the Qualcomm Politics Quagmire

Did Qualcomm actually hire Poziner or did they just buy EmpoweredU--or whatever the learning platform is now called? Purchase of the already-branded learning platform makes sense, as educational software is still a growing business, and complete educational courses often allow businesses to tap into govt. funds provided for student loans. Hiring another bureaucrat--not so much.

Nathan Fletcher is living proof that Jacobs is a political dilettante. But I have to admit: If you can get a similar gig that pays that well, hold your nose, kiss butt, and go for it! If you want to win in San Diego, though, you'd better be working for a Republican.

For the rest of you: Qualcomm no longer seems to value quality for review purposes, as much as quantity. In other words, doing a good job on Project "X" for 6 months is not as important as getting Project "X" out the door before the end of your next review period--despite the fact that it ships with hundreds of bugs. The bugs just give you more opportunities for shameless self-promotion by sending an e-mail to your manager every time you fix one during the NEXT review period. And never, EVER suggest a newer and better way of doing something. Doing so means you are obviously NOT a TEAM PLAYER! Finally, remember that despite the fact that this is the 21st Century, Windows is sacrosanct. Even if your job entails working entirely in a Linux/ARM environment, you must somehow incorporate a "WinTel" platform while working on it.

Step 1: Be Nathan Fletcher.

Step 2: Don't NOT be Nathan Fletcher.

Step 3: Collect money.

Tell everyone how much you love this company, but interview and network with industry peer. Be ready with another job offer at any time. If Qualcomm can promise us job security, then we are obligated to give our loyalty.

Yes, the idea is to gather enough tips to publish on agile by the end of this month. Are people afraid of sharing their secrets to the politics game because copycats would nullify the method/approach?

to h1b guy or girl: you will personally kill this web resource (layoff.com) for all of us. kudos. there is no use for it any more as you insert your h1b comments into every single thread and simply kill any meaningful discussion. you should be proud of yourself.

H1B's also are willing to work for a lot less in exchange for the privilege of living in the glorious US of A
