Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Older workers

Did you notice that older workers are either laid off or they are asked go into early retirement. I think this is a pretty consistent practice at SLB

Makes no difference they are laying people off seemingly at random. There is no pattern to age, job, how busy the department is, anything. They are just dragging people of the job, giving them 30 minutes to clear their desk and gone. I've been at the firm 6 years, international mobile so I'm flexible and highly qualified and got dragged out yesterday and let go...they are trying to worm their way out of repatriating me back to my home country now as well. My department is really busy and struggling to cope with the work load at the minute and has shed none of the various levels of management which do next to nothing useful but Engineers, Test Co-ordinators and technicians were all fair game.

This happens with a lot of companies and not just SLB. Financially, it makes sense for the company. It sucks for the employee.

Yes, been seeing this for several weeks. Lots of folk being "offered" early retirement.
