I would strongly recommend anyone that loses their job due to the Canada shut down not sign their severance package until they review the terms with an employment lawyer. It seems that leadership knew they're were going to pull the plug months ago, yet continued to allow US based team members to be placed into Canada Support roles. Seems like there could be room for lawsuits for team members that were recently placed (last 4 months or so) due to deceptive/fraudulent hiring practices. I'd recommend not signing away your rights until you've had legal counsel.
In general I'd recommend this anyway. Target's legal team has been at work on this for four weeks. Make sure you aren't signing legally binding documents until you really know what you're signing. I would alsolet HR know you are recording the session in case you need to refer back to anything that is said or if you are pressured into signing before seeking counsel.
If you're over 40, ask for more severance, as it may take longer to find a job.
also make sure to ask for 12 months of Cobra as a lump sum payment.
If you know you are in a role that is being eliminated (i.e. Canada support), make sure you've done yourvresearch on severance rules in Minnesota. Dont let the Target lawyers have the final say in what you're entitled to.
