I'm afraid you're right. The rule of thumb as i was told when i joined is Last In, First Out. The new hires have accrued less terminal benefits than someone who has been there for a while so they would get a smaller pay off. Contractors might probably go earlier as there are no ties to SLB.

what are the other options , looking for something beyond SLB, in the current market? Is anyone hiring at all?

I don't think any of us can speak with certainty what the current SLB stance is on this. However, I have seen employees with less than 1 year in the company get laid off. That said, I have seen folks get basically exempted from a layoff because they were brand new. Not to say it hasn't or cannot happen. Again, don't want to make any universal statements of policy that I don't know for sure about, but I would say in general no one is exempt from being considered unless they were hired very soon prior to the layoff.

Retirement package -> contractors -> greenhats was order I've seen. Lost all but one of ours already

A green hat is a short service employee, I think I got my white hat in like 5 months or so. It's basically a hard hat that labels you as being new, and people can kind of look out for you and or babysit you haha. As far as being laid off goes I don't think anyone is safe, 9K jobs is a lot of jobs to layoff from and they are laying off everyone from engineers, techs and operators
