Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

To ever-watchful IT person...

All companies need good IT people, good maintenance people, good accountants, and other inward-facing personnel to function. But let me ask you how many students have you personally met face-to-face, and how many of those were obviously functionally illiterate? How many instructors have you personally met, many working hours on their own time to remediate said illiterates? How many DOE’s have you met that are coerced into fudging numbers because they are scared to death they are going to lose their jobs because of attrition at their campus largely due to the fact that NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, is denied admission to a CCi campus as long their loans can be processed. Your integrity might be totally intact. But you work for a company that has no integrity whatsoever. You’re helping to perpetuate a disease on our society. You don’t know what kind of company you actually work for.77

Anonymous59705 (CSC )I will meet you in the IT kitchen at 10:30am on Monday 1/26/2014 and you can say it to my face that I am full of shit. You have the man marbles to show up? I will even bring you a print out of my already 6 figure salary pre and post 10% reduction. You must be a system engineering retard, dumbest bunch of ball lickers I have ever met. Can't even size a NetApp correctly.

705: I'd hate to paint all CSC IT with that same paintbrush, but I have to admit that every good coder we get seems to leave within a few months. The long-timers are really not very impressive, from BAs to IT managers. That doesn't mean that Board Hijacker isn't paid well. Salary and advancement at CCI have little to do with quality of employee. BH might have worked himself into a Boys' Club and just doesn't realize that other companies aren't like that. When CSC closes he'll find out the harsh truth. Oh well, it'll be a good life lesson for him. Peace!

Anonymous59676: Board Hijacker is full of shit. I work in Santa Ana and am familiar with the IT job market and what it pays compared to CCi IT. We have the worst IT people because we don't pay competitively in that area. This guy likes to brag that he's not even looking for a job cuz he can snap his fingers and get a six-figure one immediately once BK is filed and the doors are locked. I call bullshit. He's just a self-deluding loser spending time on boards just repeating the same shit over and over to convince himself it's true. Just ignore him.

BH - You are certainly free to do as you wish regarding your career. However, by remaining with a company with such a poor ethical track record, you become tainted by association. That may, or (apparently) may not concern you, but it is reality. Different morale compasses for different people. Not judging - just observing. In my case, I joined Everest understanding that it had a less than stellar reputation in education, and left three years later on my own in part after realizing the breadth and depth of the issues and becoming embarrased to tell friends in education where I worked.

Let me dumb it down for you. Why should I go through the hassle of interviewing for a job that I don't need, I already have one? I am well compensated and the job market salaries are in the same ballpark. The OP was saying in essence How can any good person work for such a horrible company? A valid comparison would have been how can a doctor who has sworn an oath to due no harm work perform abortions? The doctor could very well say he was happy doing them, the pay was good and WHO ARE YOU TO TELL HIM OTHERWISE?

Does not negate validity of comparison.. No. your comparison is just wrong and not at all sustainable.

So what was the German citizen to do? What if they were perfectly happy with Hitler and his polices? Are you saying every German citizen was responsible for the Holocaust because they didn't do anything to stop it? Would CCI or Zenith be less corrupt in the eyes of the OP if everyone left?

Oh goody you used the Nazi reference, I win according to the rules of the internet. Didn't think it would happen so soon.

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Hitler or Nazism."

What happens if I don't care what happens as long as I get paid to do my job? Maybe I don't give two squirts of piss if they screw someone over? You may call me a horrible person because of your flawed ethical measuring scale. Why should I leave a job that I am happy at because you believe the company sucks? Who cares if I am happy here and enjoying working here? I don't worry about other people because it is their life and how they want to live it. Now get off your break and take my drive thru order.
