Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Paper Pushing

I am sick and tired of writing contracts and not actually enrolling students...this just sucks! Nothing like keeping students in limbo with no real answers for them in sight. Camden Kid - you want something to run with? Take this one and go - Admissions departments at several schools are allowed to "write paper" but not flip students! Do your research and you will find out that we are still taking leads, scheduling appointments, selling our programs, and leading students into the abyss without activating them for their programs. Something not quite right about it all!

Exactly Anonymous60888! There are several former admissions reps in the Phoenix market that will be able to verify what the OP stated.

CK - check with the schools in the Phoenix market (Mesa, Phoenix and EUO which are the only regionally accredited group outside of Heald). The new blood supply is sitting with the admissions teams and cannot be "enrolled" - students are still coming in, signing enrollment documents, applying for financial aid, and are left hanging, while the admissions reps continue to use pain-points to keep them on the hook with promises of a better future! It's a shame that they still have admissions reps stringing these students along, just to get a paycheck.

I thought the RVPAs caused all this? I'm confused since they are all gone

Anonymous59593 -- Yeah, just send Camden Kid an anonymous email and he'll take care of everything! He's a serious power player in DC, you know, wielding his great influence from his humble fortress (er...fort) in his Mom's basement.

727 -- that's my point, but in order to work ALL of the cancerous tissue needs to be purged. It sounds melodramatic, but these people really do act like rodents. You think you just have one and you're keeping an eye on him, next thing you know all your food has vanished and they've taken over! They thrive with their own kind and will always try to regress to their ugly old habits. But yes, if ECMC were smart enough to replace ALL of the managers and admissions then I think that they could really make something good (and profitable) out of what we have.

This company puts the "fun" in dysfunctional. There is plenty of blame to share, but like most organizations, responsibility for the quality (or lack thereof)of the product and service lies squarely with executive leadership and management. Have you noticed that when pro sports teams do poorly, the first person fired is the coach? At CCI, the coaches work in - and proliferate - a culture of greed and dishonesty, with accountability only regarding the revenue. Do we know of ANY managers in Admissions, Career Services or Finance who were fired for quastionable ethics? I guarantee you many were fired for not hitting thir numbers.

Anonymous59717: I think the point you're trying to make is that ECMC doesn't have to drastically cut back on enrollments, but could rather just replace managers and admissions reps with professionals to improve the student pool? I would still expect some contraction in size, but agree that it doesn't need to be drastic. American society has a large need for vocational training and we have a lot of qualified staff and instructors trained and in place. I think "massive layoffs" is hyperbolic.

712 -- I think what you fail to understand in wanting to blame everyone equally is that there is a wide range of quality in our employees. The levels of quality clearly divides out by job area. The average manager (and up) at CCI is an illiterate, and believe it or not I'm not exaggerating. The average admissions rep is a lazy, unkempt idiot who lands here after being fired from the used car dealership. There is definitely an overall culture of dishonesty, but the real drivers (blatant lying to prospects, no standards for admissions) comes from those two groups. The rest of us then just have to do our best to try to finance and educate what they bring in.

I tend to agree with 671. This place is a mess. I'm in IT on the corporate level so I'm rather insulated from the campus level and what's happening there, but I agree with the conclusions - either more of the same or out of a job.

Anonymous59671: I'd have to disagree with you. I've worked at three campuses and at every one Admissions sat on their fat asses for three weeks a month and then went crazy for a week trying to make their numbers. They went so far as to visit homeless shelters to sign up warm bodies. They are cockroaches, and CCi management facilitates and encourages their lowlife behavior. Those are the groups to blame - Admissions & Management. Compared to them everyone else here are hard-working, committed and conscientious professionals.

The posts here from various departments simply confirm that, throughout the organization, CCI is a festering pile of dung, built on the horriby unstable foundation of enrolling too many of the wrong students for the wrong reasons. I am not blaming the front line admissions reps - like all of us, they will do what is needed to keep their jobs. Given current market conditions (too many competing career schools, not enough interested/qualified students, poor industry reputation)ECMC will either continue the pattern to keep enrollment up, or will be a much smaller enterprise, resulting in massive layoffs. Have a nice day!

It's not fun for the registrar either. Flip this.

And at csc and in the academic offices, the complaints about what the their admissions rep "told" them, gets to us on the phone calls and student breaks. Turns out, there was no proof of grad and the student was schmoozed be the admissions rep to stay til after the fifth day. Waste of time, books and money for the student. Headache for the DoE and faculty. Guess who's pushing papers now because they are getting bad retention, losing good instructors and telling prospective referrals not to enroll? Not to mention accreditation audits ding us with completion rates!

Anonymous59650: For being in Academics you certainly don't have very impressive communications skills, do you? Hmmm...wonder how you ended up an "instructor" at CCi?

And we in Academics are tired of Admissions enrolling students who can go to college. You have enrolled students who can read, speak, speak English or even have a computer. You tell them that they dont need a computer to do online work. Your job is to get them to attend for the first two weeks, then it is no longer your responsibility. Academics takes the poor student hit that Admissions enrolled.
