Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Is Schlumberger the "people" company it says it is?

SLB Corporate values:

"Our people thrive on the challenge to excel in any environment and their dedication to safety and customer service worldwide is our greatest strength."

Paying the CEO $22.8 million annual salary, slashing jobs whilst increasing the dividend to investors doesn't seem to me to be the behavior of a company that considers people its greatest strength.

What do you think - is SLB a "people" company?

As I recall, one of the slogans was "People, Technology, Profits". Most important one last clearly. No surprises there, it's a business, not a family.Even so, I have to think that there must be a better way for the industry to manage its skilled people than treating them as if they were disposable. This is why they were all complaining about a skills shortage!

Kibsgaard spews diarrhea out both sides of his mouth. He will be whining about retention in a year or so when oil prices recover and SLB won't be able to hire people fast enough and will be losing them to competitors and clients.

Name one company that is about the"people". Companies don't exist for the people. They exist for profit for investors.

Kibsgaard quite clearly stated in the conference call that he would monitor the situation on a quarterly basis and was ready to cut again if needed. He didn't talk AT ALL about people being their greatest strength.

They are definitely NOT a people company - its all about his bonus and the share price.
