Where exactly are the 57 campuses that are planned to be acquired by ECMC/Zenith? If the deal goes through, does that mean that those schools will no longer be for-profit colleges? If so, does that mean that these schools will face less scrutiny and oversight as the "gainful employment regulations come into effect?

309: Are you even IN this business? Can you not look up federal program revues and inspector general audits? Do it now, and then explain why most of the schools that have been fined or faced other consequences are not-for-profit. Idiot!

Absolutely less scrutiny...someone, somewhere, in some position of political authority, has to figure out that the profit status of a school is nothing but smoke and mirrors. A skunk without his stripe is still a skunk!
@290- Not so! For-profits have different regulations than non-profits, and community colleges generally have even fewer regulations to comply with, although that is changing.
This is why you and DH are so lame, you can't even find this out on the Internet, and need to get you "facts" for your articles from The Layoff. SMFH
Camden Kid -- Zenith will have no protection from any of the issues that made ED shut CCi down. they will still be held accountable for all of the regulations. They will be facing the same issues that CCi faced -- placement fraud, admissions fraud, financial aid fraud, slack academic standards that cause "degrees" to be worthless. They will soon have the same gutter reputation and face the same scrutiny by ED and the AGs.
Honestly, CK, that and avoiding 90/10 issues are the only advantages to non-profit status for Zenith. They will be tax-exempt, but CCi has avoided paying almost all taxes anyway. But there is movement toward holding non-profits accountable for gainful employment as well, and I foresee that trend continuing. In the end, Zenith will not be able to run a CCi-like system and succeed due to their non-profit status. they will need to make massive changes, and learn their new business very, very quickly, to have any hope of success.
