Because the company is always trying to act like they would never do a big layoff. So disingenuous.
The number is much higher than 600, and if you include 2015 (January) it'll be probably in a 2.5K range, granted the contractors and temps will be axed en masse but still, why misrepresent facts and take truth lightly.

Qualcomm I known is very affective company in smart device area. Like aforementioned, they have get a huge profit through their license and supply AP for mobile device to several manufacture companies exclusively.
But, this choice that they throw up their coworkers seems to be decided very easily.
