Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

$200, really?

All the blood sweat and tears warrants a measly $200 "special recognition award" as a thank you for the record profits. That won't make a dent in my attorney fees for the divorce my wife wants because I've been f-ing working too many hours for the last 2 1/2 years. Gee whiz RJ. Thanks for nothing but heartache.

This place is a joke i have experience in the industry just to only get 10 interviews and the run around without getting hired

Remember that at RJ there is a pool of money given based on number of people in your group. If you only got $200, then someone "favorite" got the rest of your money. To increase above the average for one person, there is a decrease in another person's bonus/raise.

I got a special reward of a Subway gift card once. This was after I did my work and a co-workers job that was out on a leave of absence for a long period of time. Wish they gave me the Subway sandwich card in the beginning. I could have used it to get my dinner when I was still working at 9pm. This lasted about a year. Recognition does not exist on a financial level at RJ unless you are in sales or in the executive club.

"Yes. Very, very few managers still care for their workers at RJ. It went from a great place to work to a back stabbing, here's a rock to help you swim place to work. It fell from the top 100 places to work for a reason."

Yeah, MaryShannon. I'm soooooo happy I'm not under her any more. I really cannot express the happiness in words.

She is the rock that is given to you when you are drowning. The back stabs help finish you off. Better to have you at the bottom of the pool than where you can be seen as she takes credit for anything positive.

IT is a second or third fiddle for RJ. If they could outsource, they would. I think the 2013 layoffs showed that. The sporadic layoffs here and there through 2014 show that. Outsourcing some of IT security shows that. Don't count on management helping you in any way in IT. You are on your own and will be dumped as soon as it is a positive for a manager.

Social Security got a 1.7% raise. RJ's was 2%. You would be hard pressed to find a company giving 2% raises to their people unless they wanted them to leave. Even 4% for the great RJ ones is laughable.

JR pays about 10% less for IT resources. IT is not well valued at RJ, and it looked poorly, just look at all the High Priced Senior IT people that they brought in from NY.

I left RJ about 4 months ago. I was very unhappy there and I am so much happier now. My new employer treats me with respect and makes me feel like I make a difference. The grass IS greener on the other side.

say what you want, but RJ really does pay very low. i'd encourage anyone considering a jump to take a long hard look at other options.

you don't have to be unhappy. life is too short and your retirement isn't that far away. you don't have to accept low bonuses, raises, and salaries and you shouldn't be risking the future for your families to stick it out with a company that really doesn't care if you stay or go.

gee, $200 bucks is an insult. that is for how many hours of late night work, weekends, putting up with the stress and terrible working conditions? gee, what do I buy to reward myself for $200? less taxes, that is going to be about 150.

You are one of the few seeing green at RJ. Did you come from WorldCom or something?

In response yeah $200 sucks if that is your ONLY bonus! Nothing had to be given to us! I probably make less than most of you but appreciate what is given! I don't agree with my performance review because I bust my ass daily but when you have been at other companies close to retirement and your told you no longer have a job lose your pension, benefits and have mouths to feed you learn quickly to never bitch about what you are given. I had to start my life over after coming from a huge company where the slackers fakers etc,,, got the same thing as the top performers! That is a slap in the face! I'm close to retirement age but my loss of pension not 401k with adult child back in my home because of the job market you think we're getting ahead??? Douche bag is not my favorite word but obviously a loving marriage understands some things have to be done and dealt with to make it work! Been on the other side and the grass is much greener at RJ!

Really? $200 is great? Are you the 16 year old mail boy or something earning $10 an hour? Yes, absolutely it is $200, but as a percentage award (.004% on 50K) it is a minute drop. People earn that amount and more with a "good job this weekend" award. It is a very token of appreciation. Tom James could have ordered more by his RJ share count, but he chose to pocket it. I agree if you don't like it at RJ, you should move on, but don't say $200 before taxes is a great award. There are associates getting more on monthly awards. I've had more in gift cards in a year than $200.

I enjoy how you preach about the great organization. Record profits AGAIN...OVER AND OVER..wages don't increase for the staff and bonuses have always been the same. We work much longer hours than in the past, sometimes around the clock. Don't make a mistake or you will lose your job. Anonymous 50783, you speak as if you are treated well, so the assumption would be you're a bit higher than the people doing the work. You reinforce what a good company it is to work for which is admirable. But how do you explain the employee survey results the past 3 years. RJ was a TOP 100 places to work in IT for years and years. Where did that go? Obviously the goal of any org should be to be successful, take pride in your people, treat the staff well, and have a great culture. All that has decreased at RJ in 3 years to the point on the outside, that recruiters and other orgs have a bad taste when you mention RJ. You're right, a bonus is a bonus, but as always proven, it is a merit bonus, based on the review of your manager. It doesn't matter that you put in tons of hours, nights, and weekends. It matters what your managers say and think about you. Favoritism always wins. And the review process here is horrible. My manager basically cuts and pastes from previous years reviews because nobody really cares. The criteria remains the same year over year. And because my last 2 reviews were almost identical, other than what I wrote, I know that HR or higher mgmt bother to look.

Just to clear things up this bonus which is actually an award for the firms successful year this went to anyone below Sr. Manager at RJ not just Ops & IT. Yes it's $200 but they didn't have to give us anything! Since you yhink it is a slap in the face and do not appreciate how bout you give it to a needy family that could use it most of all appreciate it! If RJ is such a awful place do us all a favor and quit instead of you whining and bitching! See what it's like somewhere else, see if you even get a bonus or have the freedoms you have at RJ.

The bonus pool for this year is supposed to be significantly bigger according to Reilly. Doesn't everyone already get a much bigger bonus?

considering the length of most projects take months, we could do some basic math. a 6 month project. working 50 hours a week. that's 240 extra hours, at a minimum. here's an extra 80 cents foe each of those hours. people here may be whiny, but they are also realists. did we also forget that these projects are sometimes 1M and up in dollars. we will pay crazy maintenance fees or to have someone external come do an audit, but not the people here. how much do we pay microsoft, apple, or even fishnet in a year. millions.

I believe the original poster is not being selfish but pointing out that this company continues to crank out record profits yet staffing needs are not being met, technology is lagging behind our competitors, employees are taking on more responsibilities, and salaries are not increasing (RJ is already known for paying lower than most companies). While $200 is better than nothing, it is a slap in the face and an insult to all of us who worked hard for this company only to see the top benefit from it.

If this post doesn't show the type of whiny, entitled bitches who populate this site, I don't know what does. You're complaining about extra money being given to you. Do you know there are families in the Tampa Bay Area who don't make much more than that per week? That $200 could do a lot for some peoples' holiday season, but you bitch. Your wife isn't divorcing you because you work too much. She's divorcing you because you're a selfish, entitled douchebag.

What they' didn't say was how they were going to deliver the $200. I am expecting one of the followng ways; A dollar a day until paid in full, a bag of $200 in quarters which will be used to beat us, or $200 will be given to the United Way in your name (but really done just to make the firm look like they care about people). This place is a bigger joke every year and I can't wait to leave.
