Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

What happens when they Fire you or lay you off at Target?

Sounds like Target is doing a bunch of poor performance actions in order to trim the Target herd without all the bad press. For those that are fired or laid off does anyone on here know what happens after that? Do they offer severance or do the now unemployed team member just have to file for government unemployment?

It has been a Target mantra for a while to put PR before employee morale so the performance out fits that pretty well. Just document document document keep emails where you met/exceeded expectations. Discuss if performance expectations are realistic and get it in writing.

Laid off - you get unemployment benefits, fired - it depends. The default for firing is no unemployment benefit, but many people provide detail and the state decides to grant it. Severance is only for laid off folks.

If you get laid of you get severance pay.. a week for each year you have worked. When that is used up you start collecting unemployment. If you get fired you dont get severance pay and whether or not you get unemployment depends on the reason they fired you. I got fired for not meeting expectations and I got unemployment. They determined it was not my fault they raised the expectations so high I couldnt obtain them anymore.
