Just to let everyone know I work out west at a dc for 15 years, well are time as packers are coming to a end, nothing but temps are taking over, I mean when someone leaves the company or gets fired, temps takes there jobs and no one can even post to another key if they wanted to, I wish we had a union, but I fear it is too late for us.

You didn't answer the question as to how a union can keep temps from being used to fill a packer position that is currently unfilled. Also, contracts have to be agreed upon and I don't see how any company would agree to that.
yes a union can protect your jobs, once they make a contract with the company, as most contracts are from 2 to 5 years, then there is nothing that you or the company can do to change the contract until its up, then it all on the table again. also keep in mind that most likely your pay will not change, but new employees that the company will hire will have a different pay scale more likely. all I can say is try to get a vote in for a union before repack is gone. also down the pipeline I hear that the company also wants to put temps in lanes in outbound and on the art lines. things are changing as the company is trying to cut cost. I been with the company for 15 yrs and we are going backwards it seems.
Please tell me how a union can make sure that packers are not replaced by temporary folks. I am not saying that packers will be fired but let me know how temps replacing packers is something that a union can keep from happening. I am curious.
This is exactly why you need to have Union over there. They would not be able to do this kind of stuff to you guys if you had someone define the rules.
