The "Bye bye Heald" post below and this say about the same thing. Neither is particularly enlightening, and similar problems can be found at most state universities and community colleges. Once the government allowed students to borrow more than the cost of the education, students loans became a way for the lower class to "get by." In the past, before open admissions. All colleges required aptitude assessment. This assured colleges that students were prepared to do the work. College was exclusive, as it should be. Life is like this. I can't walk into Cowboys training camp, 30 pounds overweight, 36 years old, with only a few years of Pop Warner in my background, then expect athletic remediation for years so I can someday hope to join the NFL. Someone should step in and change the educational system. Provide technical training to get service and technician jobs for those who are not qualified for college, and who truly do not want to be there. This would end much of the crisis and leave college to those who can actually do the work and benefit.
