Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Steinhafel's Resignation - what comes next

I'd bet there will an even bigger round of layoffs - The whole strategy crumbles, India gets hit really hard. Marketing decimated. Stores closing. We are on the defensive.

Every company has the same focus on digital because if you do your research .com and mobile are growing at about 20% a year why go out when I can have it delivered to my door. The only store areas that seem to have poditive growth are top end where it is targeted at an older audience, or specialty models like the cost cos of the world. Otherwise comps seem to be down year over year. And your current Target strategy of cutting your . Com area by 30% doesn't seem to be working for you. If you had focused on tech a little more you may not have had what will probably be a billion + data breach by the time all is said and done. The we are a retail company and don't need tech mentality is killing Target. Good luck . And hopefully you have learned a CIO should have a tech background and a CISO should have a security background or by the way a COO for Canada should have experience in rolling out stores to Canada.

.com and mobile - come on, every single company has a similar pipe dream - it's a different competency and we are in retail business, not technology. We do retail really well, yet, look at our IT group - some great guys over there, however their ability to deliver is questionable at best.

It is dificult to know what to expect with new leadership. But if they are comming from outside the company I could see targets to the underperforming Canada teams and delayering of the org. The new leadership will not see a need to continue the bad strategies of previous leadership. Given current trends in retail I wouldn't be surprised if they refocus on .com and mobile.

Let me guess, you also only confirmed (if you accepted at all) appointments after 12/21/2012 only after 12/22/2012. It's quite day a stretch to go from something that has been anticipated to predicting the demise of the business.

Target is, and always will be, larger than a single individual.
