There is IT in the US also: Business Analysis/project management, Engineering, Technical Architects, Solution Architect. The mix is about 70-30 off to on. Because of the cuts it will just be more contractors onshore.
Not too worried about being a greeter at Walmart. The great thing about IT in the US is it is in demand. If you get let go from Target your skills are valuable in pretty much all other companies. I was let go in the first wave of Target layoffs and found a job in 5 weeks for more money with a nice bonus. So I recommend you get a job in IT, great job security and a growing field. Pay is growing at a good clip and for all the lies that outsourcing will take over it just isn't true. You will always need resources locally to manage requirements and the work.
