What was a wonderful and creative workplace has become a place of fear and mediocrity. Target was the industry benchmark. Times and trends change and the truly thoughtful companies understand impermanence and change. Target lost focus and chose to develop ways to measure and justify the road to mediocrity and genericism. Too many managers and metricists. Now, the middle management is fighting to save their jobs, save management, lay off creative thinking and doing.
I left Target because of the management and the environment of fear. Tough choices need to be made. Do it with grace and honesty Target! People are scared.
