Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Think It can't or wont happen here? 2000 jobs shed at ATT in a single day

Well AT&T guy , OUCH ….OUCH OUCH even more surplussed laid off whatever you want to call it. The mad scramble is on !! as y'all are out there bumping everyone, and anyone you can IF IF your allowed

So the pissing contest has concluded we have yet to lay off....or surpluss we have given early retirement quarterly for 2 years now for a toatal of about 12-1300 .

While ATT swung a BIG axe some are saying its at 2000+ affected by the largest lay off in 23 years for your company.. I AM SORRY this happened to y'all do not like to see any Union Brothers or anyone in the BIZ take it on the chin like this . the Industry is now completely flooded with surplus and early retirement men and women looking for jobs now ….things are gonna be tight for everyone

For those of you at ATT that got cut best wishes for you and your families . we have no one to blame but ourselves we got comfy and let sh-- slide especially our representation. seems they do you like us , contracts over a year sometimes close to 2 years , no back pay, anemic raises, passing health care rises on to us, etc etc etc.

CWA NATIONAL has FAILED US …………………...PERIOD I saw where some guy from union was berating the rank and file blaming them for inactivity etc. etc. etc. the TROUBLE is NATIONAL. The labor strikes and lock outs and sh-- you all grew up hearing about? that was when the union stood as a whole. they NO LONGER HAVE that weight or choose not to use it. that's the ONLY way CTL, ATT, VZ, FRNTR have the number to make a difference

last time that went down people were fired and replaced not our industry but it happened with full presidential support. that shook unions to the core it happened in the 80's airline industry for those to young to remember....So ATT I AM SORRY I gave you sh-- ...cuz yall took one right up the keister. And all you CTL boy and girls had better be paying attention ….The WORLDS LARGEST TELCO Just shed 2000 workers in a day …….ONE DAY its that simple really

"Last I heard , since the level 3 merger, CenturyLink has layed off over 16,000 employees total. Keeping it quiet and on the down low. And my guess is they arent finished. They are just now getting to the business offices, management and reorganizing the service and delivery (order entry) groups."

That's what they do, not an announcement, as I stated below we were getting over 200 a day in several locations at the same time for weeks on end. The only way you knew is when you needed to contact someone and they were no longer there and then went to a replacement or back up and got the low down then.

You get a view of the total numbers when a article comes out stating something like CenturyLink is a Telecommunications company with ( this many world wide Employees and this many in the US)

Don’t know where you have been we had a lay-off in March in Florida and several others on the inside part of the company just because it didn’t effect your work location doesn’t mean it didn’t happen

I have seen a lot of comments and posts disappear here so the moderator is trying to keep it civil and on topic . The was one guy who suggested working at a cremation job as a new career now that was funny . Getting laid off is no fun but we need levity here and real news !

When Qwest Merged with US West we were getting 200 plus a day layoffs all over, when the Merger started there were apprx 165,000 employees, when done close to 64,000 initially, then selective pruning began. Feel bad for you all at AT&T but we are still swimming in blood since that knife has kept on cutting 20 years later.

Oh and if you wonder why the CWA doesn't ramp up and throw down the gauntlet, they got paid 500,000 to settle the last contract with former Qwest area employees, there is also a reason that all our contracts within the company do not sync up on same dates. They can divide and conquer a lot easier that way and also do damage control easier to funnel workers to contract negotiation areas.

When your representation gets a pay day from the employer you have to wonder what level conflict of interest is there. Multiply that by number of contracts negotiated every year and the CWA seems to do alright settling things for us and not pushing back the take backs the company has done over the last 4 contracts.
