Another victim from last week's carnage here. My question is for anyone who has been laid off from IBM.
When prospective new employers call IBM to ask about your work history, what are they told? Just dates you were there? Or are they told you were laid off, or what your salary was , etc?

I do not believe employment verification can give out salary information. However, if your new employer is using a service for background check, you have to agree and consent for that service to share your information, and in that process you do have a choice of releasing salary information or not.
Just for the record, this is standard practice at large companies, not just an IBM thing. as somebody else said, it's all about lawsuits.
Usually this is automated through and 888 or 800 dial in number for most big corps that way there is no mistake, no slip of information, etc. Just dates and salary info period...nothing more. Make sure you get that number from HR or you can even search it online - as in IBM Employment Verification phone number to call. Several answers will come up online when you type this in - even Quora but make sure the site is verified vs Malware.

That you were employed and the dates. Thats it.
Correct. Verification of employment only. Even that is hard to get. IBM is paranoid of employment law suits, as they should be.
I was told they only give dates employed or if still employed.
They do not offer any job performance details good or bad and of course no salary information.
