They don’t select people to offer the package to. EVERYONE that qualifies gets one and can decide including the dee-bags on top.
If they offered a VERP, they want you gone. What is there to decide. Everyone is replaceable at any job. From the top to the bottom.
You are right, get out while the getting is good!
Don't fall for the "you're good" BS from your manager. I can tell you several VERP candidates were told not to worry about taking the package last time (on the low) only to be cut a couple months later. Major regrets. The market is c-ap, if you can get out with a good package, TAKE IT and move on.
Just sign the thing and move on. The sooner you sign is the sooner you can mentally get closer to the next thing in life.
