Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Stability Gone

This used to be a very stable company, good work life balance, cared about people.

All of that is gone now.

Welk..... There's stability if you're an old P&C PH person. Just see who is left standing. Odd considering more ppl made money for the company Year over year who were cut or demoted v staying.

Pearson has been starving and then selling off their business groups over the last few years. I expect that to continue until there is nothing left. This is why you havent seen a change in leadership or any long-term investment in the company in years.

Until they have sold the remaining pieces, the company will continue to employ sales reps through each spring selling season and then immediately conduct layoffs so they don't have to pay the bonuses.

At this point, if you haven't been laid off, you should be asking yourself why you want to be a part of this cycle moving forward? By staying, you are signaling to the company's leadership that you are ok with being disposable and that you are comfortable with a mission that places shareholder value over the product, people, and service. If you choose to stay now, you stand for absolutely nothing.

Stability and security left the building around 2010. So did giving a rip about customers needs, learning outcomes, and most important employees. Pearson is in the midst of a slow death spiral by consistently chasing a bad strategy with an even worse one. There has to be something else at play here that we're all just not seeing, because the last 6 years could not have been botched any more poorly then they have. Each strategic initiative rolled out over the last 5-6 years has been poorly thought through, and even more poorly executed which makes one wonder if it's not all part of some larger plan ( i.e. drive valuation down in order to be acquired by Google or Amazon), because it is impossible to see how Pearson remains relevant and sustainable in this direction.

Best of luck to all who have recently been let go. A constant theme on this thread is that better things await all who leave Pearson whether they left on their own terms or were forced out . It's true! You'll see that the skills you've developed , relationships you've grown, and the ability to overcome any challenge, will make you a valuable employee at any company and in any industry that is lucky enough to hire you. Leadership clearly never understood that the greatest asset that Pearson ever had was the talented and passionate people that made Pearson a great company and brand.

What year did that exist? Been here since 2012 and there has been a reorg/layoff every year.

None of that has existed at Pearson in years. I honestly can't imagine a WORSE company for stability, work-life balance, and caring about people. Why would anyone still willingly choose to be employed there?
