Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

If you get another job, severance stops

So Global Product in Higher Ed laid off all of editorial and had everyone reapply for a reduced number of positions. That was in April. A few weeks ago, Product Marketing got the same deal. Today, Field Marketing were all laid off. This extends from executive MMs down to assistants. The company is providing 2 weeks of severance for every year, with Cobra healthcare subsidization. HR of course couldn’t answer exactly HOW much they are subsidizing during the severance period. And if you get another job, severance stops. Not sure how they find that out though if you are careful. Maybe via the healthcare.

Thought it would be a good idea to pull this from an old thread for info (reply is new.) OP is @VTnvX71-3uyhk.

If you are a resonably healthy person do NOT do COBRA. Go to your state BCBS or another provider and pay for an individual policy. My COBRA was going to be $500 a month and I got an individual policy for $85. FYI. Several that got laid off with me got jobs and double dipped. No one ever knew.

Be careful on social media. Someone posted something about a job and their severance was cancelled. They can't tell from the healthcare, since you can opt not to enroll in the Cobra. You may want to consider other options for that anyway, as the subsidies they promised don't amount to much and you bill will triple.

What if you left for year but came back? When does seniority actually count? In the portal it shows one year, original hire date, but then I'm told it's another year, when I came back last. All of these years standing up, defending, loving where I am, and it comes down to worrying about a few extra weeks pay to feed my family.
