Availability

Does anyone know if there is a way to print out a document that has the required availability for each position?

Colleague availability will always be an issue for anyone who works at cvs. At cvs you are NOT allowed to have ANY restrictions on your schedule. You MUST have 100% open 24/7/365 availability! Anything less than that and your employee record will always have a red flag! This goes for full or part time personnel. And this isn't about the needs of the store (although cvs will tell you that) This is about "if you work at cvs we OWN you!" Working at cvs is like modern-day slavery! Long hours, no breaks, don't complain or you're fired, never a weekend off, unrealistic expectations, understaffed stores, etc., etc. Heck at cvs, you don't even get a pat on the back for a job well done! It's just "you should just be grateful to work here!"

This line...

“Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some early morning, overnight and weekend shifts, to work overtime as needed, and to respond to urgent issues at the store when they arise”

This is from a PART-time shift supervisor job opening straight off of the MyHR website. That pretty much looks to me that yes even part timers are required to have 100% availability.

In my last review my SM raved about my work, but then, even though she couldn’t find anything wrong with me or my work, she said corporate REQUIRES that something needs to be put down as “this employee needs to work on this”, so she puts down “colleague availability is limited”. I’m only a part timer, and yet I have been tagged with this “colleague availability” label all18 years I’ve been here at cvs... I get the idea that there is no perfect employee, but must store managers really be forced to find something wrong with someone? I bet this is how they avoid giving out “EE” or “OP” in reviews.

CVS does not require part timers to have open availability. However, they want less fulltimers and more part timers in stores. Very few people fit this criteria and its laughable. They most likely aren't good or they would have a job elsewhere.

Regardless if you’re full or part time, cvs requires EVERYONE to be available 100% no restrictions!

AND...if CVS has anything to say about it that 1 slice is made of their “HEALTHY” outdated pizza crust, tomato sauce and mozzarella so it tastes like sh*t!! Buon apetite!

Think of it this way... A pizza pie is eight slices. maybe for the average person 3-4 slices takes up work and the rest is for your life/family, etc. At cvs 7 slices takes up work and 1 slice is for family/life, etc. Think about it... Why do you think cvs runs the stores with bare bones minimum staffing levels? Because that's exactly how corporate wants it! ANY employee that has a life or family outside of cvs, is considered worthless in corporates eyes! BUT, if you have NO life, NO family, and you can work 24/7/365, then you're cvs' ideal employee!

Remember this: their is retail, and then their is CVS retail. Working in retail the cvs way, is like retail on steroids!

As a shift, I can speak from experience. I started back to school and would have a class at 5:30 2 nights a week. My SM cut me to about 25 hours a week. I was mad so I called HR and they told me if I have any restrictions on my availability I am not guaranteed FT hours. So it s---s but unfortunately HR will not take the employees side on this issue

you do realize you work in retail at a d--gstore that’s open 8-10(varies), 7days a week, 365 a year right? If you’re complaining about things you can’t understand regarding scheduling a store that’s open at least 98 hours, with a staff of maybe 6-10 people? Retail isn’t for you. If you’ve made this your career choice, then I feel awful for you. You have made some made mistakes in life. Quit find a new job. It’ll get worse. Life is not important in retail, especially in cvs. Be proactive, there’s better choices out there.

The only reason store managers say full timers need 100% availability is because they will be stuck working the bad shifts. There is no formal policy stating FTers need to be 100% open. Store managers - STOP LYING

Some retail establishments offer flexible scheduling to their employees, cvs does not.

In addition nobody is forcing you to work in retail.

Most jobs are not 9-5. With retail, restaurants, etc. the hours obviously vary. If you want a 9-5 go find one and quit complaining. Employees are hired and paid to do a job according to needs of the business. If you don’t like it find a new job.

Ironically this is EXACTLY the biggest problem with cvs right now... Colleague Availability. Cvs basically requires 100% availability. They require you to be available 24/7/365. And trust me when I tell you this applies to part-timers as well as full-timers. How do I know this? I am a part time employee, and every review I get, every year, the ONE THING they always put as a black mark on my record is colleague availability is limited. I’m a part timer and deal with this c-ap all the time. So yes, they even expect PT people to be available 24/7/365. This unrelenting “you must have 100% availability and you have NO life if you work at cvs” is what’s driving people away from this company!

It is retail you want hours you have to have open availability.

There is no such document. Availability must meet the needs of the business which can vary from store to store. A low volume store may require everyone to have open availability since there are so few employees where as a high volume manager may allow restrictions. So in a way it is up to the store/rx manager.

Regardless, HR will say that if you have any availability restrictions you are not guaranteed full time hours.
