Autonomous 2021

In conjunction with the City of Tomorrow initiative, the effort to build fully autonomous vehicles by 2021 is the main pillar of Ford Smart Mobility for those who keep questioning:

The vehicle will operate without a steering wheel, gas pedal or brake pedal within geo-fenced areas as part of a ride sharing or ride hailing experience. By doing this, the vehicle will be classified as a SAE Level 4 capable-vehicle, or one of High Automation that can complete all aspects of driving without a human driver to intervene.

Wonder if pizza delivery will be conducted by an autonomous vehicle(s) which is driver-less?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, this is absolutely true. And yes this is all about maximum control of the people. Technology is a fantastic thing, but I don't know of to many people that are willing to relinquish all of their faith into this technology. It will be forced upon us weather we like it or not. If people have no option but to conform then there will be a big issue with personal rights, what do you mean I can't drive a car anymore??? That's a problem.

Fully you say that, so why stop there? Ever see the movie Captain America winter soldier, perhaps the concept of hidden in plain sight. A fantasy of a system designed to snuff out all non conforming individuals upon society. Non-conformants.

Would be a shame if that AV made a sudden and abrupt turn into a monster tree. But, we lemmings embrace our technology with full support and no questions asked. Social media said we should. Zombie apocalypse unite.

Aluminum foil hat time.

Well, if the government creates a "no ride" list, you won't be going anywhere. And if they want to arrest you, all they have to do is have the AV drive you directly to the police station

Only the ignorant blindly placed their faith unquestionably in tech. Social media alone has turned half the world into mindless zombies. Who said a zombie apocalypse wasn't real?

Additionally, AV offers no guarantee of rate reduction. The insurance companies are not in the business of giving back. However, if legal regulation forces them to reduce, like the new law mandates, then there could be options. You won't get the same coverage, you can choose to remove coverage to save on your payment - as Michigan has long been the most exploited state on rates. It's not a freebie folks.

Autonomous vehicles will be an insurance cost savings, that's for sure. Anyone know in conjunction with the recent auto insurance announcement at Mackinac Island, how much our insurance will decline?

Boeing is a prime example of corporate incompetence in software autonomy. I expect Ford to at least match or exceed Boeing if they ever get an autonomous product to the public.

My sister is in the marine industry, same thing happening over there, autonomous boats will be here in the next couple of years. If you want to water-ski, just push a button. Ford may want to seek venture in the marine industry for diversification, but its truly up to them.

There is also a finite timeline for airplanes to complete all aspects of flying without a pilot to intervene, any immediate action or actions will be corrected by the tower. Reminds me of the Jetson's, keep yourself strapped-in, this significant change will award high-end jobs for everyone. Your welcome.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. It's not about a technology thing, but is about control.

When the first horse and buggy showed up, aside from the buggy breaking down or the occasional horse freaking out, the driver was in control. When technology showed up in the form of an automobile, aside from the occasional accident, the driver was still in control. On that point, did you also know there are people in life without so much as a ticket or an accident? Driving is a skill, not unlike other skills. Some are much more naturally gifted.

Then we come to AV, where society is freely expected to give up control, all in the sake of safety. So, which one, is unlike the others? Many people haven't even put in the time to compare the evolution of transportation, yet claim your just afraid of new technology. It's so much more than that. Look past your nose.

Yes, we should have never gone with trains or airplanes either. Tech is evil.

Aluminum foil hat time. This autonomous/ ev driving is nothing but a power play by world governments. Mobility under personal control is of up most importance when it comes to defending yourself, or moving out of harms way. As governments become more controlling and tyrannical they can use this technology against the people. No more voting with your foot steps per say. Oh you have to stay because we shut off your electricity, and you are geo fenced in etc. The taskmasters/leaders will preach how this will reduce congestion, save the planet, blah, blah, blah. But in exchange you will have the mobility of cattle going to slaughter (hmm electric fence, geo fence, seems the same to me). And if the government gets really nasty you will have no chance to defend yourself, they will be able to move much quicker than you. It's no wonder why governments are so open to this...

This decade is probably the best time ever to work in the automotive industry, who would have ever thought of cars "self-driving"?
