Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM stock was $129 20 years ago

Stock hasn’t done poo in 20 years.

That’s not a tech company.

That’s a horse and buggy company

Stock has been a dog for a decade. Agree with previous comment - even Buffett understands it is a sham. Board should be in jail for negligence.

Let's not forget the tens of billions spent buying back the stock to boost EPS plus the billions on acquisitions. All that cash is lost with nothing to show for it.

Value company. LOL

That is why Warren Buffett (Mr Value Investor) dumped it.

Look it up

You are forgetting 1999 was smack in the middle of the dot-com bubble... Everyone's stock was high.

Yes, IBM is a value company. Value vs. Growth. There is a big difference so look it up. "Dogs of the Dow," IBM is the number 1 or 2 for the year. To get back to a growth company - like Microsoft has recently - will take a lot of layoffs, a lot of change, and a complete 180-degree turnaround.

best to compare apples to ibms, tech to tech, mano-a-mano

ibm stock has underperformed the tech sector, has underperformed the broader s&p

ibm stock is where it is only because of its dividend, it is a "value" stock and is propped up by mutual funds which have a value component.

Yes but 1999 $100 is $153 in 2019. So it means that IBM stock value compensating for inflation is actually about 65% of the value it was in 1999.
