Huawei’s Yearslong Rise Is Littered With Accusations of Theft and Dubious Ethics

Huawei’s heady expansion was in microcosm the allure of China’s massive market—irresistible to many

companies around the world, including American tech majors that enabled its rise. Qualcomm Inc.

supplies about a fifth of Huawei’s smartphone chips. Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. are also big

suppliers. International Business Machines Inc. became an important consultant for Huawei starting in

the late 1990s, helping to teach it Western business practices and expand overseas.

Geeeeez. . .Big Bleu were played for fools masterfully.

Huawei appears about the same as other Asian companies with respect to ethics and IP "adoption". Why Huawei was singled out from the heard is unknown. One plausible reason: They are the Chinese company with the greatest lead over US companies. The other reason offered: a bargaining chip in trade negotiations. The situation stinks on both sides.

In the end, does it really matter? Our 5G infrastructure will be manufactured in China. And oh yeah, when China retaliates using the same arguments against Apple, then what? Sounds like a real lose-lose for the US.

It amazes me that Executives in USA/Europe Corporations are still giving away company IP to make products in China due to cheap labor. Just look at where the 5G networks by Nokia and Ericsson are made (in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, and many other locations in China) and to be used by USA/Europe/Asia customers. The "heart" (where signal processing is done) of these networks is being coded up by the Chinese.
