Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

The layoffs have become a regular thing at Oracle, but they manage those too in order to stay out of the press

I literally had 95% 5's on all my performance reviews and didn't see raises.

That's because performance reviews were for show and didn't correlate to anything meaningful. Stack ranking was held behind closed doors and wasn't mentioned to employees -- that's where the real decisions were made that could impact comp and even then the percentages of individual contributors getting a raise or stock was incredibly small.

Ever since the database market share started to be impacted by SQL server and open source alternatives, Oracle's strategy has been to do whatever is needed to "manage" (i.e. cut) costs. No raises, reducing benefits, shifting work to India, layoffs and pushing out tenured employees while hiring cheaper college grads have all been part of the game. The layoffs have become a regular thing at Oracle, but they manage those

too in order to stay out of the press.

Well said @Zfz6Byc-1gns

"They do it to get a lousy 5% raise."

Speak for yourself. I usually get anywhere from 10-15% per leap. That's why I shake my head in disbelief at these dim-wits who stay on for 5-10 years all the while bemoaning their lack of increases and wringing their hands over layoff fears.

Pretty much entails the behavior of any company.

My experience as well. In most firms you are told that only the very best get raises, and that cost of living raises are a thing of the past. It's why so many people, especially those working at smaller firms, job hop very couple of years. They do it to get a lousy 5% raise.

But the hiring younger for cheaper is nonsense. The post is contradictory. You got no raises --- most likely for years, yet you think your new hire is cheaper?

At any rate. This is another in a long list of 'I laid off and it wasn't my fault' tripe. If you didn't get raises throughout the years despite being so high caliber, that in itself should have been a hint to explore other options.
