Thread regarding Ford layoffs

It won’t be any better for me if I survive the layoffs

I get that the ones that are laid off are having it real tough at the moment and I feel for them. On the other hand, even I survive all the waves and the so called Smart Redesign I won't be any less unhappier, knowing that I’m working for a company that turns on its own the moment there is any need for a change of direction. So to the folks that got cut: look at the layoffs as a blessing cause when you find a new job you’ll be in a better place.

No it did not correspond to performance. At least in our area the ones released were the ones most well liked and respected by the team. They were also the ones doing all the work and developing and teaching less skilled workers.

It is all about the current Benjamins.

No, it did not respond to job performance. Not for us anyway.

Welcome to Chrysler for the past 12+ years...the sick feeling of dread every day driving in...the sensation of drowning for 8-12 hours a day.. dog years off your life span...just like Ford Chrysler was a great place to work when I hired in...many decades ago...seems like forever now...like it was all a dream...watch your back. The brutal back stabbing with start soon...

If you are still with Ford and got demoted get OUT. You will hate yourselves for staying and feel so much better for not letting Ford have the last word. I couldn't imagine being demoted and still hanging around like some leach. There are many companies that would love to have an experienced professional on staff vs some college grad that doesn't know sh&t.

I should had retired last year when given the opportunity. Figured I was going to retire in 2 years though and not be forced out before 30. I was told I have until the end of the month, then I will be let go with 6 month salary and my pension. 29.5 years plus the 6 months puts me at 30 years. Ford is simply eliminating pensions and it's ashame. Damn millennials coming in and starting at GSR8 and easily making $120k in a few years, that's almost where I'm at, but they don't care about pensions. No one can retire safely in the future and I feel bad for my children and grandchildren.

It is the end of a long career at Ford. I am happy and fortunate that I enjoyed the good years. Do not know my fate yet but Ford will no longer be a place where I want to work anymore. The stress, the workload, the demands, all of it.

I agree. I survived the layoffs but I was demoted along with many others. I will retain my current salary for one year. After that, it will be lowered to be compatible in the new lower salary range. When I retire, my pension will be lower as a result being based on the last 5 years of base salary. I am still being asked to perform the same job with the same responsibilities. I was working 9-10 hour days without overtime. I was planning to retire in a few years. Staying will not be better for me.
