Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Recipe

Consolidate departments. Automate. Eliminate redundancies. Staff people with the competencies to implement your vision. Eliminate obstacles, the inferior, the obsolete, and the naysayers.

Eliminate waste and overhead. Improve efficiency. Outsource where you can realize cost savings over bloated internal resources.

Recover resources. Sell excess for capital. Take the tax-write off on the discards.

Innovate. Invest in infrastructure, development projects, and people to increase productivity, increase returns and cash flow prioritizing whales and deprioritizing minnows.

Repeat until done.

  1. Better Inception -- long history of programs where vehicles developed that didn't sell. The latest would be Continental.

  2. Better execution

  3. Reliability is worse. An example would be Flex where reliability is worse than on earlier wagons (Taurus X). Ford seems to have quit doing most reliability engineering.

-- Systems Engineering has been lacking. It takes less effort to slap a design together and try to remove the issues.
