Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I am very concerned...

A group of folks I worked with in IT was let go today. So much talent was lost and it’ll be almost impossible to rebuild. We should all ask ourselves if this company is going to be able to make it going forward. If the cuts stop, maybe but if there are two or three deep rounds (as many are predicting, and the Wall Street is pushing for) this will be the end of Ford and WE WILL GET ACQUIRED!

@caz do you not realize that computers run the plants, ensure timely arrival of needed parts, ensure all the right options are built; they also run the dealer loan programs, market and sales, ensure you get paid, allow you to unlock your car And on and on.

Some of the people who keep the big iron running are highly skilled. A number of the people in the same groups are just taking up space and running their mouths.

Guess who was laid off? Bingo, the highly skilled and highly compensated.

Having worked in most areas of IT over a long career at Ford, I have to say the poster has little real grasp of the realities. To be fair there is some truth in what is written, but unfortunately not enough to make the point well. As with all teams there are stronger and weaker players, for the most part in all areas the weaker ones have gone.

In any downturn the real question is what are we doing that is not critical to the success of the company, and then we have to stop it. This may unfortunately involve letting good folks go if they cannot for many reasons be moved to more critical areas.

The key to long term success is continuing to adapt and reinvent yourself, and hoping that you can always find a position in the work areas that are key to company success.

What talent??? Everything (all systems) are already built, IT does not innovate anything they just admin the current legacy systems. No talent in Administrating the current systems. Does not take 5 LL6 supervisors to fix an outlook outage. IT needs to be canned even further, I expect this to happen next year. IT is now 50% overstaffed even after the layoffs with most making close to 100K on the low end.
