Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Why are people talking about a 5 year plan - were did that come from?

There are several mentions in posts about a 5 year plan to cut 10% each year is still coming. Where is this coming from? If true-ish, will they include more buyouts like the prior two years?

They've been cutting 10% from contractors for years now. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see those cuts finally hit the salary ranks.

I mean that from the standpoint of sales, profits, and the broader automotive market. Obviously we have a general strategy for five years from now, but we can't know for sure how well it will work, which really is the determining factor for whether or not more cuts will be necessary.

"I'm pretty sure no one in any leadership position would have put together any kind of concrete plan like this for the next five years because they realize they don't know where we'll be at in five years."

Listen, no one knows what will happen five years from now at this point, no one.

First, we will probably have a new CEO by then, who could decide any number of different directions to take the company.

Next, we have no idea where sales, profits, and the industry as a whole will be in five years. Nobody knew autonomous vehicles would grow to be such a big deal so quickly five years ago.

Without knowing this, there's no way to know how many and when any more cuts may come. All we can do is hope Ford is successful so that more cuts will not be necessary. I'm pretty sure no one in any leadership position would have put together any kind of concrete plan like this for the next five years because they realize they don't know where we'll be at in five years.
