Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Anyone else freaking out that was laid off?

I haven't been able to sleep the whole night. I'm just overwhelmed right now. I can't stop applying to jobs. I can't stop feeling like I let my family down.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm still here, have been told that my teams are done, and I didn't sleep well last night. Or for the last couple weeks. Or since they started SRD. A lot of the comments here are spot on. You will get thru this.

I couldn’t sleep last night at all. My brain just would not shut off. The whole day has been a fog. I am trying to concentrate on all the paperwork but failing, the website links seem to be circular loops. I hope I can sleep tonight. I want to put this chapter of my life behind me. I have often wished that I had listened to that inner voice that told me to turn tail and run my first week at Fords. It was right and whenever it reasserted itself, I pushed it aside. Big mistake 25 years of putting up with the Ford Culture and getting further and further behind in the skill set department. It is hard not to ruminate. I have got to let it go and move on with my life.

We we're not put on this Earth to work ourselves to death Use your time to find a job you want and spend time with family. Recruiters will not look down on you because you were let go during a mass layoff. Relax and use the severance you were given. It will be all right. You might find a silver lining out of all of this.

You have only lost your job (NOT your skills and abilities). There will be good days and bad but every day will represent progress. The job market is good. You will just need to re-learn how to market yourself again (interviewing, etc). The career consultant service should help with this. I was separated from GM and I am making progress. I feel good and you will too.

I know what it feels like to be in a situation like this. I was one of the victims of GM layoffs. I went into depression always thinking I let my family down. I went through hell during that period. Following are my advise which I applied to myself to make myself feel little better after layoff:

  1. Do not compare yourself to others.

  2. Do not beat on yourself.

  3. Life is not fair.

  4. No one knows what future holds, so why worry for it.

I know it is a stressful time but please try to relax and calm your mind. I am in HR and I interview people all the time. When people come in stressed out and nervous because they are so anxious to get a job it shows and it doesn't show well. The job market is really good right now so please know that YOU WILL BE HIRED, YOU WILL WORK AGAIN SOON. Please take some time this week and next to relax, enjoy some sunshine, and touch up your resume. Good luck to you and any others who were released from FMC this week.

Take a few days to allow your emotional tentacles to let go. You got some severance so gather that family that loves you around and take a small reasonable get-away with them. Your competence and self assurance will flood back in given the distance. You were good enough when they hired you and you still are. Make it happen again.

Take a deep breath! Take a step back and like the other person said take a few days off to get your head on straight (mini vacation.) The best thing I do when i am in a situation is make a list of what I need to do and hit the pavement.

It’s hard. Been through it during the Great Recession and had to relocate for a job, lose home with three small kids - there were no jobs in MI. You will be okay, one day at a time. You will find another job, maybe one you love more. The severance is a big help. In 2008, only unemployment and no medical with kids that have high medical needs. Don’t blame yourself. Get some sleep and update your resume. It’s going to be okay and you did not let your family down. They will support you. Hang in there

This was absolutely not your fault, and don't blame yourself for it. This is the problem with the way we look at this kind of thing in our society. People are conditioned to think that any job loss, any loss of livelihood, is an individual failing on their part. But it's not. Our capitalistic society is becoming more and more ruthless, and people like you are the victims of it. If we were not driven by the interests of wealthy shareholders and profits at all costs, we would not have had to make cuts, and you would still have a job.

@sww same thing in our area

My mind went back to the recent itek innovation showcase.

The LL2, LL3, LL4 blathered on about how important innovation was and how much they valued the innovators and presenters, all the while knowing many of their names were on the to be canned list.

Then they said let the hunger games begin.

Step right up ladies and gents, stick you head in the noose for the next round of layoffs.

Can't be too bad...low unemployment rate and we receive 6 months pay plus healthcare. Try working somewhere where you get a month severance and cobra.

Hi. I have been through a massive layoff within the last 8 years with a local defense company. I was devastated as expected. I kept positive and found immediate work and have been happy ever since. My point is: Although things look bleak for now, trust me, it will get better. I was told this and thought, yeah, right, but then I actually experienced it myself. So, please, folks, keep positive. It does get better and it will get better pretty quickly. I am a govt employee that just came to this sector from FCA recently. We are hiring on the govt side. Please look at usajobs.gov. Thanks and God Bless you all. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

It was not a random lottery in many areas. It was who was in with their boss and who played the political game. I know one group in particular where everyone knew who the one person being let go was because they are buddy buddy with bosses LL5 and LL4 so when that person, who was one of hardest working, went for their meeting they all left their desk so they didn't have to face them when they came out. Even the boss was a coward and could not look at them as they read the script.

Sorry to hear that! I know no words can comfort you in this state. But maybe this is helpful: if you aren't tied to the area, apply for jobs all over the country. My advice is to stay away from the Detroit auto industry, and Tesla, and their suppliers. Take a day or two for now, go on a mini vacation or visit family. Then come back and start applying. Or maybe find some headhunters.

I know that mass layoffs like this isn't a matter of skills, but a random lottery. It is NOT an indicator of your worth.

There has been a mixture of people let go from slackers to incredibly talented and hard working people. I'm guessing if you're experiencing feelings like this that you're the latter and were caught up in an unfortunate coincidence of being in the wrong position at the wrong time. Breathe. I'm a long timer here and the way they've cut some of the best makes no sense to me. Perhaps once you're settled in a new company, you'll be relieved and thankful to be away from a company that treats its employees like disposable resources.

I think quite a few of us feel the same way. Funny thing is I still have my job, for now.

That is the problem with the way they did this / seemingly randon. Everyone is on edge with thought ‘will I be next’? Will take a long time for morale to recover, if it ever does.

To the OP - good luck!
