Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Listen, things happen.

I empathize with those who are losing their jobs, but folks have to understand this whole industry is facing a cliff. Ford and GM may not even be able to muster the strength to compete in the age of autonomous vehicles. Cutting jobs to keep the ship afloat is a lot better than allowing the whole thing to sink like the Titanic. If this allows for proper retooling to navigate the next generation of automobiles, then so be it.

Sure, it s---s losing your job, but do you know what's even worse ... not being a citizen of an industrial nation like the U.S., making fewer than $6 a day like half of the world (https://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2018/10/17/nearly-half-the-world-lives-on-less-than-550-a-day). I've seen abject poverty in places like Paraguay, Tunisia, and Moldova; what those people on average deal with is MUCH more real than getting laid off.

So listen, stay positive and keep sight of the broader picture; you're extremely blessed to live in such a wealth nation. The next few months may be tough for those that lost a job, but there is so much opportunity at their feet compared to the majority of the world. We need to place ourselves in the proper context and be grateful.

"I don't care about the rest of the world. I care about me right now." ... Well, then perhaps you deserve to be fired. Maybe that will help restore your humanity.

I seriously doubt AV will be anything big at least in the near future. There's not going to be any good way to keep vehicles from being hacked. Seems like a big pipe dream. Even Toyota said they don't know how AV would be possible on a mass scale.

Seriously you think that cutting jobs will save Ford? You must be close to Hackett or in high management. Because no matter how many jobs you cut Ford is sinking and it is not from being over staffed. It is because of poor leadership. Always a step behind and nothing new and innovative ever. By the time they have their campus updated and their train station remodeled everyone will be light years ahead. The titanic will look like child's play compared to Ford if they don't get someone in there who has a clue. It is hard for us workers to perform when they don't believe in the leadership.

In this economic environment, the only difference between Ford Motor and the Titanic, is the Titanic had a band.
