You are right anyone young enough should find new career. FPL is hiring lineman all the time they have so much work pay is $35 an hour and up.
And they didn't get many takers, so they can bring in contractor's. Who would want to come baxk and get trapped on and stressed out some more? Only those desperate.
They are only recalling customer service technicians no network technicians.
CDT'S CST'S COT'S and some other acronyms are all NET Techs, they are just classified by different jobs.
I don't think the network techs got letters yet they had them listed as customer service techs
Customer Service Technician, SW Florida.
Are you a network tech?
I got my letter last Thursday 5/23/2019, late afternoon. That day 4 of my co-workers got it as well, via UPS certified mail.
If you guys are not going to get benefits and you are getting laid off again in December....that kind of sounds like they turned you into a seasonal contractor. Just saying...
What day did you get the letter still waiting on mine?
I got the letter, start date June-17-2019, end of contract Dec-20-2019. Hourly rate stays the same as any other regular employee, no subsidy health insurance, no 401k, no severance pay after end of contract. I emailed to the person in the letter as point of contact and asked her what happens after Dec-20, she replied it is over after that, she did not mention the possibility of renewal.
Yeah they screwed up all the letters they all say customer service tech even if you were a network tech. So you don't know what is open COs for network tech to bid on.
No it’s definitely happening they have been given a start date of June 17th as a company tech not a contractor.
I would wonder if they jumped the gun and didn't follow the contract and opened themselves up for a big lawsuit with the Union and so were forced to hire back. Nacchio did something similar, not allowing them to search for jobs inside or not follow time frames and not supply HR support and resources and openings etc.
Going back would be like slamming your junk in a door, no thanks.
As effed up as we are, i have trouble believing this. As a contractor, yes, i can see that. As a company employee, that is absurd, even for them.
No clue if it is a temp position havnt seen the letter yet. I just know that they have sent out the letter. In my opinion most likely they let to many people go and can’t bring in contractors for another 15 months. They are starting to see the load back up and are worried of backlash. Also apparently there is a lawsuit filed or being filed due to offering a package right after laying people off. Most likely it will be a temp position given to all laid off employees and they will keep only the ones that they want after temp contract ends. This will let them bypass seniority rules. And if they offer jobs back to all laid off employees, then they will be able to bypass the 18 month waiting period to bring in contractors. They will keep offering packages every quarter or at least 2 a year and back fill those that leave with laid off employees and then contractors once all employees have been offered their job back. The reason they can’t get good contractors is because they don’t pay enough. And piece work jobs are only good in areas with good plant which there is not many areas left. The company knows what it is doing they are trying to get all pension employees to leave. It’s not so much breaking the union that will just be a byproduct of what they want. Slim permanent employees down back fill with expendable contractors slow the work down to justify less employees which will make us look better to a possible buyer. Level3 never intended to keep consumer business they only wanted our core fiber routes and buisness fiber customers. Someone will definitely purchase the consumer side might be split up but it will be purchased. Contrary to people’s beliefs consumer is a profitable side if they would quite pulling the money out of us to build or buy different stuff ie. data centers, cell towers. Now I do know in highly populated areas that it’s only a matter of a couple years before 5g takes effect but in the rural areas we are a good 10 years out from worrying.
So why would they do this? are they offering them to come back to their hourly positions and retain seniority? or are they offering contractual piece work ?or the newest latest full time temporary employees? the ship is sinking they cannot find anyone to contract for them because they are offering piece work so last ditch effort try and re-employ them?
Someone post a letter for us to read please...I know they have approached techs in Central Florida who took VSPP and retirements about coming back to work for them. laid off I can possibly see why you'd consider this but if you see the forest through the trees you understand you made the right decision …….THIS IS ALL ABOUT BREAKING THE UNION...………...
