And I stopped giving it my all. Actually, since I know my days here are already numbered due to my age and years with the company - I'm not even sure how I survived layoffs so far - I've been doing the bare minimum required. And I know I'm not the only one.
When you treat your employees like c-ap, don't expect to get much in return.
I was a Senior Product Manager at TR for 18 years working 60+ hours, traveling, missing my kids first ten years, then in 2017 wake up call, found another job making less fiscally but better life regarding everything else.
One user said "You're not entitled, and you're part of the problem." Well, in many states, it is work at will, if management does not mind people doing the minimum, so be it. It just proves that management does not have pulse of the business or knows the numbers that they should be making decision from.
I am as dismayed as everyone else, but here's what I don't get: You're cashing your paycheck, one you agreed to as part of an "at will" contract relationship.
You're unhappy, I get it. I am too. I still put in 50+ hours because my job requires it and that's what i agreed to do for my paycheck. Do I expect to survive here 20 years? 2 years? Until December? Who knows.
Do the upstanding, moral thing and do your work. You're being paid for it. I'm not saying you have to give above expected, but to do so little because you are mad at incompetent management just shows you have no moral compass. Find something else, or do the work and take the paycheck. Being a leech on productivity and not doing work for what you are paid is theft, at least morally.

Layoffs are a fact of life in corporate America. But the TR layoffs were done in a dumb manner. Okay they say we want to be flatter. We’re going to let go of all the senior editors. All right you lose all those senior salaries as well as the expertise. But we still kept editors who can barely use a computer.
In Tech we lost some brilliant minds. And kept some not so great people cuz they were cheaper.
In Operations, we’re probably going to lose really smart people who have been put in some random groups. Their new bosses have no idea of their value. While we kept total dead weight.
I have a unique role where I work with all business units. I’m shaking my head at some of the people we kept and the folks we let go.
You could have achieved the same cost savings if you went in with a scalpel instead of a buzzsaw.
The only way this McKinsey strategy makes any sense is if the plan is to make sell off the parts before subscribers don’t notice the decline of the products.

I think everyone is giving the minimum necessary and those if a certain age are waiting for the axe to fall,
I know my team and myself are in the same viewpoint. We figure why should anybody contribute much anymore? They clearly are on the way out and we are seen as liabilities. I think it's laughable because the people on top don't even see it. They're still going along their merry way thinking everything's just fine. I wish we could all just quit and leave them high and dry. serves them right. I've put so much time and energy into this company and they're the ones who are just trashing it and all that it stands for. I'm angry I ever cared. I won't make that mistake at my next job.
They should be ashamed of themselves but it's just another day in the corporate grind of capitalism.
