Most of the layoffs that I heard about in I.T. (No, we were not spared until next month) were not the "dead weight" you expect to see let go but some of Ford's more talented people. How is that Smart? Ford has people that browse Facebook all day but they are getting rid of the people that get all the work done. I've seen Ford do some dumb things in my 19 years there but how they are deciding who to let go for this "smart" redesign is one of the dumbest.

Initially I thought our building was the exception where all the wickedly talented and productive were terminated. It turns out that was the norm for IT across the board. This does not compute unless they are planning to outsource IT or they plan to go on another massive hiring spree. Time to jump ship.
IT here as well and ditto to the original post. Left those remaining and those let go in shock. The terminations did not make any sense. The LL4 made the choices for the LL5 and LL6. One young smart innovative hard working leader who we all thought would a great candidate for promotion was let go today. Stunned.
Don’t you guys get it? This is all about the bottom line - $$$$. They are targeting higher salary employees and they also have to be careful to not layoff the same group types such as older employees, same s-x etc. or they could get sued.
It's not 'smart' and it 'redesigns' nothing...
It's kind of like "Holy Roman Empire" - it was not "Holy" as it was as corrupt as you can imagine, it had nothing to do with "Rome" as it was in Germany and it was not an "Empire" as it was just a collection of smaller states that did not want to give up independence...
100% agree with OP. They let go today most talented and hardworking individuals in IT today. Only GOD can save Ford. They are digging their own grave
Why is this a shock? It says one thing they have no idea what anyone does or the value they bring to company. It could also be they do not care, or that this high knowledge is a threat to another manager above him/her.
A surprising number of tech spec LL6s were let go. This is going to come back to bite them.
