Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Office Staff needs to be Unionized to Prevent Age Discrimination

They should not be able to throw out senior employees like old dish rags

Time to Unionize or this cycle will continue

It won’t stop layoffs from happening but there will be an increased chance of fairness

Don’t need unions to protect against age discrimination because federal law prohibits it.

There are some salaried workers at Ford who are covered under UAW contract...you can read about their contract on UAW site. I don't know how they've fared, but if you know any, you could ask them.

I suspect the main difference is that they would generally be safe until the contract is up for negotiation (i.e., this year).

Oh yeah? Tell that to the union employees that worked at Edison Assembly Plant, Norfolk Assembly Plant, Atlanta, Wixom, Loraine, Twin Cities, Wayne Assembly Plant, Maumee Stamping, Cleveland Heights Stamping, Woodhaven, Dearborn Stamping, the Rouge Frame Plant, all the former Ford plants that became Visteon and ACH that have been closed. And those are only the plants I can think of that closed in my 25 years at Ford. The union can not save your jobs if the company isn't selling product. It's an upper tier marketing/management issue, not an issue with workplace organization.

I'd put my bets on 'no union at all in about 5 to 10 years' - seriously, that's how bad things are
