Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Difference between SRD and previous layoffs

I've been at Ford for previous layoffs (e.g., Way Forward), but I sense a big difference this time. In those previous layoffs, it was tough, but those of us who remained generally agreed it was usually the low performers, deadwood, hard to get along with, etc., who got the axe.

This time though, it's not the low performers who got axed. If anything, it's those who overachieved, and had the bad luck to get promoted to positions which were eliminated.

I wonder how HR will recruit (if/when we hire again). Will we boast "Ford offers great opportunities, such as a management track. If you work hard & excel, you'll get promoted into positions of greater responsibility"*

  • Note: you may do so well that you get promoted into a job that someone in the Glass House may decide on a whim to get rid of, just because they can...evil laughter"

Agree with OP the overachievers got cut in our area. They were all high achieving technical specialist LL6. Not a single mouth breather was touched. It was so odd because the whole idea seemed to be more nibble and productive. We all expected the mouth breathers to be cut. Now who will know how and what to do? Not I says the little LL5, Not I says the mouth breathers. Here we go on another hiring spree.

As a bean counter...that is exactly what it was my friend.

Agreed, lots of talent walked out today.

It appears that folks that were not fully vested in their pension plan were targeted.

Maybe it was an exercise by some bean counters trying to limit future pension liability?

Taking a job s---s, period! It's seems that one should start small. You go-to college then transition to a job and finally live off your income or start your own business and become wealthy. You will never ever get rich working for someone else nor will you ever have any type of security. Large corporations today offer nothing but a paycheck, no pension, no skill, infact they ruin your skills. You will become nothing but an overpaid paper pusher who attends endless meetings. Once you become overpaid your out! If you do stay at least 10 years you better save every penny. It's better to build your own wealth, these corporate college jobs are for beginners, there is no long term future at these places anymore.
