Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Bridgeview IL Kmart remodeling

There is a handwritten sign at the entrance, that they are looking for people to remodel the store. There are also lots of "now hiring" signs taped to the wall. While I think it's a good sign that the dingy store will be remodeled, shouldn't it be done by a professional firm, not by people off the street ?

remodel may be the incorrect word, it is more of a re set, moving shelving as they closeout the electronics and automotive sections of the store. Associates were hired to move stock and reset displays. The floors will be repaired professionally with the moving of store shelving which is normally done by store staff.

The turnaround is in full swing. The new Home & Life stores, reinvented Kmart stores being remodeled, and right-sized Sears stores are really going to bring fresh energy to retail. The new logo is beautiful and getting a lot of attention. And Sears.com is open for business 24/7, with the products people want at an unbeatable price.

This company's idea of remodeling is painting rusted out fixtures and counters, moving counters, and resets. They will bring in a company to patch floor tiles and possibly replace a cracked toilet.

I hope this is true, but given Eddie’s sh--ty track record, it’s dubious. Let’s just say this renovation does go through, do you know what changes will he made to the store?

closing for remodeling is often the polite way to say we quit. No landlord is going to allow non contractor, non permitted remodel

Wait till the unions find out about it. They can really cause chaos in Bridgeview if they want to.

They would have to pay the prevailing wages if they hired competent professionals. Better to hire minimum wage people off the street to get cheap labor regardless if it is done right.

I would think so, but probably any profesional company does not want to have anything to do with Kmart \Sears.
